I painted my own ceramic room decor … ♡

Hey, everybody! A couple of days ago, me and Goodmommy went to one of our go-to department stores. And it’s only natural for me to take a look at the dollar section. Whenever I know that we’re headed to this store in particular, I always make sure to carry some cash just in case I find a little treasure hiding in the playground of shelves.

And guess what? A couple of treasures we’re waiting for me~these ADORABLE ceramic hanging decor pieces that you can paint. They even come with a rope and tassels to add as decorations!

Any type of ‘arts and crafts’ item such as this (especially at a good price) tend to catch my eye. I’m always looking for opportunities to make a new creation. I especially love how each of these kits come with 3 paint colors and a little paintbrush, which is good if you want to add a few details.

This one has colors that are more on the “warm” spectrum. On the back of each packaging was an example of a possible end result, and I fell in love with the color scheme. I figured that the gold would really make the pink and the brown stand out. I’d never used gold paint before, so I was super excited to try it for the first time.
The square (or diamond-ish) shape of this second one is very interesting, to say the least. Although I don’t really like how the hole in the center limits the amount of painting space, I think it makes the piece unique. I love the little lines in between to help add some detail. And I think the light and dark blue paint will really compliment the configuration.

After I finished my schoolwork for the day, I asked Goodmommy if it was alright if I used one of the kits. Once she gave me the okay, I was pretty quick to get out my own acrylic paints, a couple of paper towels, a paper plate for mixing paints, a small bowl of water, and paintbrushes. And after that, the rest just came naturally. I’m really happy with the finished product~it’s a really cute addition to the rest of the pictures and artwork in my room.

What I really loved about this little project was the fact that it gave me lots of room to experiment. I tested out the paint in the kit, and it was really hard to get even coverage. Pretty typical of most cheap store-bought paints.

But I still really loved the colors and how they suited the shape so well, and I decided to mix in some of my acrylic paints with each color to get the brightness to my liking. The changes were subtle but noticeable, in real life. That means that I have a custom-mixed gold paint now, which will be very useful for my future works!

I love how the subtle tweaks made the colors look a little more saturated without taking away from the “vibe” of the whole thing, in the end. I also changed the placement of the colors, which I think added to the design, as well.

Overall, this entire experience was a lot of fun. And it resulted in a decoration that’s super pretty to look at. Now I can’t wait to use my second kit! If you enjoyed seeing my finished creation, please like this post and consider following my blog. If this post gets enough feedback, I might even show the output of the unused kit, which I am all up for!

Question of the Day: Have you ever customized a decoration? If you have, was it for a special occasion, or just because?

Thanks so much for stopping by, everybody! Have a great rest of your day! ♡
