You all know about mostly all my hobbies. Reading, writing, blogging, and art. But did you know that I’m also a gamer? Unless you were here during the early days of my blog, chances are this is news to you. It has been a long time since I’ve posted anything about gaming. But I’ve never really stopped my gaming habit behind the scenes. Today is National Video Game Day, and considering that video games are a part of my daily routine, I thought I’d show you guys the ones that I like the most out of my collection.

But before you all continue, I wanted to let you know that it’s also Gospel Day. I recently wrote a post where I discussed my go-to gospel songs on my playlist, so I would really appreciate it if you would check it out to celebrate the best music there is!

And without further ado, let’s get this party started! ♡

1. Beat Saber

Beat Saber is a game that I play on my virtual reality (VR) headset, the Oculus Quest 2, which I got on Christmas of 2020. This being one of the first games that I purchased, I fell in love with it almost immediately. In summary, this is a rhythm game where you are given two light sabers–one red and one blue–which you then use to slice blocks. The blocks move toward you in a pattern that correlates to the beat of different songs, some of which are instrumental and others being real songs by popular artists in the industry.

I really love how you can complete songs on higher modes–which consists of Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert, and Expert+–the more you practice. As of now, I can do just about every song on Expert and/or Expert+. Not only is this game super fun, but it’s also a great way to sharpen your reflexes and get an amazing workout!

2. ROBLOX

If there’s any video game that I play the most often, then I’d have to pick Roblox. This popular online game–available on PC, Xbox, and mobile devices–allows you to create a free account and customize your Avatar. You can then choose from millions of games to play within seconds. I especially love roleplaying games like Royale High or Bloxburg, obstacle course games like Two Player Obby, story games like Camping, and simulators like My Pet Salon Tycoon. The experience is even better when you interact with other players around the globe.

Roblox is literally thousands of games built into one, and that’s what makes it one of the most popular games in the world.

3. Rec Room

Rec Room is another one of my VR games, and pretty much a newer and more updated verzion of Roblox. The more you play, the more you level up, 50 being the highest level attainable. Right now I am on level 32. One of the only differences compared to its online counterpart is that instead of having to buy money to purchase outfits, gamepasses, and other perks, Rec Room lets you earn coins as you play. Oh, and did I mention that it’s free?

As someone who’s ridden amusement park rides, worked with other players to complete several intergalactic, pirate, and enchanted quests, competed in a talent show, and won several games of “Catch the Flag” in this universe, I can confirm that definitely deserves the hype that it receives, and remains one of my favorite video games to this day.

4. Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (2013)

This revamped version of the 1990 original is actually one that I played several years ago on my iPad, when the game was free on mobile app stores. And while that is not the case anymore—unfortunately—this game is still one of my all-time favorites. Me being a Disney girl, I absolutely loved the magical fantasy aspect of this game with iconic characters, interesting puzzles, eventful boss battles, and the story-telling scenes in the prologue and epilogue just before and after the actual gameplay.

More than anything, though, I appreciate that while being more than appropriate for gamers of all ages, it is far from easy, and requires patience to beat some levels. I think that makes it perfect for gamers who like a challenge. Under the age of 10, I became one of the many players to beat the game. I hope I get the opportunity to play it again, someday.

5. The Climb

Afraid of heights? Well, then you’ll either view The Climb as a great way to face your fear or just flat out terrifying. When it comes to this VR game, the title pretty much says it all. I really like how this game allows you to rock climb high above the ground without actually doing it in reality. The view once you get to the top of each level is so gorgeous and realistic-looking. With the amazing graphics, helpful checkpoints, and thrilling obstacle courses, The Climb is always a beautiful adventure that puts a smile on my face each time.

Overall, I really enjoyed sharing some of my favorite games with you all. Although I don’t talk about them often, video games are definitely a more part-time hobby of mine that I love. And my ultimate favorites are just a few of the games that I use to support my love for gaming. Hopefully, you all will get to check them out sometime, as well!
