5 Benefits of Having a Parent Who Works From Home

What’s up, everybody? I hope you are having a splendid day or night! ♡

As most of your know, I have been homeschooled for a sum of almost 6 years now, and I absolutely love it! But I’m not the only one in my family who stays at home during weekdays; my grandmother and guardian, who I call my Goodmommy, also works from home as an offsite receptionist. Throughout the years, technology has improved drastically. And one of the benefits of the constant revolutions is that they allow many parents to work in the comfort of their own home. Goodmommy is one example of many.

Why am I talking about this subject in particular, you ask? Today is National Work From Home Day, and since my Goodmommy has been slaying at her job for 7 years, I want to share some of the things that I love about having a parent who works from home as a homeschooled teenager.

So without further ado, let’s get this party started!

1. A Flexible Schedule

Compared to work in an office building, working from home gives people an opportunity to be more flexible with when they work. For example, even though Goodmommy does have a schedule that she sticks to every week, she had the option to choose her own schedule according to her needs. This helps assure that her schedule is a healthy balance between her work and family life, unlike the demanding hours of some in-person jobs.

2. No Demanding Dress Codes

Depending on where you work, some businesses require their employees to dress business casual, or casual. While there is nothing wrong with a standard for appropriate attire, it can still limit what you can and cannot wear to work. Working from home–and attending virtual school–give you the option as to whether you want to work in everyday clothing or your pajamas and a robe. I personally think that you can be much more productive when you are in comfy clothing.

3. More Family Time

I’m quite sure I’ve repeated this multiple times, but Goodmommy is my absolute best friend. Therefore, because both of our schedules are so flexible, we are able to spend hours of quality time together each day. Working from home can have long hours, in some circumstances. But some companies actually give employees vacation time at and around special holidays, which helps people spend more of their leisurely time with their families.

4. We Use Less Gas

It’s hard to believe that we once had to drive to school and work five times every week. While it feels normal if you have that type of lifestyle, it isn’t hard to recognize that it uses a lot of gas—not to mention a lot of your time. And considering that the price of gas has been sky rocketing lately, working from home has definitely allowed us to save a lot of money.

5. Reduced the Risk of Contracting COVID

Although many people have let their guards down in regards to COVID, the risk of contracting the virus increases when you work amongst people every day. But having a parent that works at home means that it is much less likely that Goodmommy will get COVID or spread it to me, in the process. P.S. Don’t forget to stay safe, and wear your masks, everybody!

As you can see, having a parent who works from home is a blessing in so many ways. That’s why I thank God that He gave me and Goodmommy the opportunity to get our education and work at home, in the first place. At first, I missed attending in-person schooling, but the more I got used to the adjustment, the more I realized that being homeschooled is the perfect option for me; I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Joyful Blogger Tag 🌻 | national day of joy ♡

If you could describe the best feeling in the world, what would it be? Come to think of it, there are a few that come to my mind. Love, gratitude, hope, peace. But what about the word “joy”? The dictionary itself defines the word as “a feeling of great pleasure or happiness.”

And while some might say that joy is a synonym to the word happy, it’s more of an abundance of glee that feels like a burst of energy throughout your body; in other words, pure bliss. Today happens to be the National Day of Joy, and a special Hug Holiday, which ironically go together perfectly. I mean, if there’s anything that bring us joy, it’s a warm hug.

In order to celebrate this day catered to joy, I decided to answer some fun yet thought-provoking questions in my original creation: The Joyful Blogger Tag 🌻 Feel free to answer each of these questions on your blog, as long as you state my name as the original creator (Q’Zion) and provide a link to the homepage of my blog within that post. And, without further ado, let’s get started!

What brings you the most joy–that does not include materialistic items?

Firstly Father God, who all my joy comes from. Then my family and friends. My pet fish. Seeing others be kind to one another. Doing what I love to do: including writing, art, listening to music, singing, reading, looming, etc. I think I feel happiest when I am doing what I love with the people that I love. While participating in my hobbies is always fun, whether I do it individually or with others, I always love to share my work with the people whom I care about the most.

Which color do you associate with the word “joy” the most?

I know this might be a little standard, but yellow is the first color that comes to my mind after reading this question. Bubblegum pink is a pretty close second, though. I think both of those colors are bright, energetic, bright and happy–looking. Brighter colors in the warmer spectrum tend to make me the happiest. On the other hand, colors like purple, blue and green give me a serene vibe. It’s funny how different colors and shades can make us feel different emotions, isn’t it?

How do you think you’ve grown as an individual within the past year?

The past year–or two–of my life have had a huge affect on the person that I am today. For one, I think that I’ve got a lot wiser, both due to things that God and my Goodmommy has shared with me as well as personal experiences. Now I am much more confident in who I am and how I look, and as a result I am a lot less shy then I was years ago. I have come to discover that I am wonderfully and perfectly made. In other words, I am exactly who God wants me to be. And I think that as long as I keep that motto in my heart, I will continue to grow.

What are you most grateful for?

The list is so long that it would never end, as there are always things to be thankful for when you look at the big picture of your life and what it could be. Right now, I’m most thankful for love and peace in my home. Being able to laugh, smile, and just enjoy life. I know that’s a pretty simple answer, but the things that make us happy don’t have to be complicated. In fact, most times it’s the everyday miracles that bring us the most joy.

How do you find joy through the trials of life?

When life gets tough and you’re in a tight spot, it can be tough for some to find things to be joyful about. However, I always like to remember that even though things might not be going my way, I’m still alive and breathing. Therefore, my journey is not over. Life itself is one of the greatest blessings of all. If we weren’t alive, how would we be able experience joy in the first place?

Wow! Those questions were the exact daily dose of happiness that I needed. The entire purpose for this post was to give us a chance to reflect on what makes us feel joy, and what we are grateful for even throughout the trials that we face. Remember, nothing and nobody can take your joy without your permission!

LET’S CHAT~What brings you the most joy? And furthermore, what is your favorite way to spread joy to others? Feel free to share your responses in the comments. I would love to hear from you all!

Have a joyful day, everybody! See you next time! 🌻

How my family stays hydrated . . . | National Hydration Day

Although we’ve all heard it more than once in our lives, hydration is crucial to a healthy lifestyle. Even though many people don’t like the taste of water, it provides people of all ages with the energy that we need to get through each day. And as a result, our bodies can only go about three days without any water.

Yesterday I spoke about self-care habits to benefit our mental health; a subject that I consider extremely important. However, this still doesn’t hide the fact that our physical well-being is just as important. And one of the most important ways to keep our bodies healthy is . . . you guessed it: drink water!

In honor of National Hydration Day–and to spread awareness about the importance of hydration—I thought that I would show you all how my family keeps water in our systems. Let’s get started!

You may recognize these bottles as the famous sports drink–Gatorade. Believe it or not. this is only what we have in our storage closet: that doesn’t include what we have in our fridge or island cabinets. After COVID-19 started, Goodmommy began to stock up on water, Gatorade, and other necessities. And boy has it come in handy! Our favorite flavors are Fruit Punch, Strawberry Lemonade, Strawberry Watermelon, and Passion Fruit.

Fun fact: water is the main ingredient in all Gatorade. Plus, the brand is so popular because it keeps you hydrated, despite the large variety of delicious flavors. Overall, Gatorade is an option for people who don’t like the taste of water, put still want a beverage that is healthy for their physical health.

However, we should always keep in mind that drinks like Gatorade and Powerade should never serve as replacements for pure water, since that is always the best option, especially for those trying to adjust to a healthier lifestyle.

My family also keeps multiple cases of purified water handy at all times–both for everyday life and in the unlikely occurrence of an emergency. Sure, sports drinks may taste good, but there’s nothing like a refreshing, ice cold class of water; especially on a hot summer day!

Some easy helpful tips for staying hydrated are;

  • Keep reminders around the house to drink more water (sticky notes, images, motivational words, etc.)
  • Buy a cup that measures the amount of water that you need to drink each hour.
  • Incorporate fruits and vegetables (strawberries, lemons, cucumbers, etc.) into your water to give it some flavor.
  • Carry a water bottle with you when you go out of the house.
  • Eat foods that contain large amounts of water–especially fruit!

LET’S CHAT~Do you like to drink water? If not, what do you do to stay hydrated?

Have a happy rest of your day or night, y’all! See you later; and don’t forget to drink your water!

Summer Solstice | A Haiku in Honor of Summer

First day of summer
Sun sits lofty aloft
The glistening sea
-- A Haiku "Summer Solstice" written on June 21, 2022 by Princess Q'Zion. All Rights Reserved.

Welcome, everyone to the first–and longest–day of summer! Although a majority of us have already been enjoying the “summer experience” after another school year ended, today is the beginning of the real summer fun.

Today the Earth orbits the Sun at a specific angle, making the large star appear at the lowest or highest point in the sky. Not only is it really beautiful–making it the perfect opportunity for selfies–but its also the start of road trips, family gatherings, visits to the beach, leisurely bike rides, county fairs, and all the other amazing elements of the season of summer.

So I wanted to ask you guys, what are your plans for this spectacular time of year? Traveling across the world? Writing a novel? Eating some hot dogs with your family? Sleeping in at home? There are so many things to do–the list is pretty much never-ending. Feel free to share some of your goals for this summer and/or some things on your summer bucket list in the comments. I would love to hear from everybody!

Thank you so much for reading, and I will see you all next time! Have a happy summer solstice! ♡

Have you ever had an ice cream soda?

As I stated in an earlier post, ice cream is one of the best desserts to have in the summer. But, what about beverages? While water or an energy drink like Gatorade are the best options, soda is one of the most well-known drinks for summer gatherings or road trips around town.

A scoop of ice cream or a can of soda can make for an occasional sweet treat underneath the rays of the sun . . . so could you imagine what they would taste like together? Ice cream sodas, also dubbed ice cream floats, are just the right mix of sweet and savory—perfect for summer time. And National Ice Cream Soda Day is the perfect opportunity to try one if you never have before.

Here is a “Fanta Ice Cream Float” made of orange Fanta soda and vanilla ice cream. You can check out the recipe and make it yourself by clicking on the image.

I remember drinking a root beer float (Root Beer soda with vanilla ice cream) once back in early elementary school while I went to school in person, and I remember really liking the different yet delectable combination. While vanilla is the standard flavor of ice cream to infuse with soda, there are so many ways to be creative with this dessert–no soda is off limits!

Fun, fresh and bursting with variety, an ice cream float is the perfect way to indulge in a little something sweet during scorching summer days.

LET’S CHAT~I’m curious, have you ever tasted (or heard of) an ice cream soda? If you have, what’s your favorite flavor of soda to incorporate in your floats? And if not, what flavor would you like to try, in the future (if any)?

Have a beautiful and blessed day everybody! See you next time! ♡

Flower Photography |Nature Photagraphy Day

A/N ~ Hey, y’all! I’m so glad you’re here! In celebration of Nature Photography Day, I will be sharing a reblog of some of my personal flower photography. Enjoy!

In my Visual Art class for this year, one module was focused on photography, and many of the techniques associated with it. Ever since then, I’ve fell in love with taking photos, especially of nature. As of now, I do my best to take at least one nature photo every week to get some practice in.

Spring is in bloom, so when me and Goodmommy came home today, I noticed these delicate white flowers that were sprouting from a tree just outside. And the first thing I thought was; photo opportunity! So I took a mini photoshoot of the flowers–one of the most beautiful aspects of nature–and I wanted you guys to check them out.

Here are some of my latest nature photographs. All Rights Reserved.

1. I absolutely admire this angle…the flower is tilted so elegantly. Ahh, that feeling when you get a good shot is the chef’s kiss.
2. I think close ups can be super pretty when executed well. I’m definitely seeing improvements!
3. In my art class, we learned that this technique (making small things look bigger) is called macro. The way I remember it is macro = microscope. It’s super cool how zooming in a little can help you see the intricate details that you can’t see unless you take a closer look. That’s one of the most beautiful parts of photographing nature.
4. I just had to show the whole tree in a shot, so I really used the opportunity to do the opposite of macro and make the whole tree the focal point rather than just one flower. The white stands out from the shades of green so vibrantly. Very spring, if you ask me!

Photography makes me feel super happy inside. And my photographs of the great outdoors are always some of my favorites. Thank God for the beautiful scenery of spring!

Learning about different species and organisms that I’ve never heard of or seen before is always a super exciting experience. Every photo that I take is a step of improvement; and I’m enjoying every second of it.

Thanks for reading, y’all! Toodles! 🌻

June 12 is a special day . . . here’s why

Anyone who reads my blog knows that I tend to use National (and Global) Days as inspiration. Not only do they address super interesting topics, but they are also amazing blog post ideas. Therefore, today I did my routinely check of June 12’s National Days, and there were so many interesting options that I didn’t know which one to choose.

Instead of making that utterly impossible decision, I decided to discuss three of the National Days for June 12 all in one blog post! I’ve got a lot of talking to do, so let’s just get this party started!

National Loving Day

Although we should love others and ourselves every day, National Loving Day is the perfect opportunity to put in an extra effort to help everyone around you feel loved. But to be more specific, this special holiday is catered to the celebration of interracial couples. The holiday was inspired by Mildred and Richard Loving (a black woman and white man) who got married in 1958. Less than 10 years later, they went to court in the case of Loving vs. Virginia, causing the Supreme Court to make it illegal for any state within the country to ban interracial marriages. This National Day is a reminder that love is a feeling that goes far beyond something as simple as race.

National Children’s Day

Honestly, being a kid is amazing. And although we can anticipate what it will be like to be adults, it’s important that we enjoy every single second of our childhood. National Children’s Day is not only a celebration of how children light up the world, but also to spread awareness about kids who have mental and physical illnesses. What I love about this National Day is that it gives kids a day of their own, and acknowledges that self care is an important practice regardless of how old you are.

Race Unity Day

Diversity in friendship circles in real life and the media is always heartwarming for me to see. I love seeing people of different races embrace each other’s differences–in fact, if there was more racial unity in this world, I think it would be a better place. Race Unity Day gives us an opportunity to educate ourselves on racism in our countries and world, how it has changed over the years, and what we can do to spread awareness for equal rights for all people regardless of their nationalities.

June 12 is a very special day due to its important meaning as it adresses diversity and the young people who make up over one fourth of the world’s population. I really enjoy looking at the National Day’s because they allow you to learn so much about what’s happening in the world, and the wonderful slices of life that deserve to be celebrated.

LET’S CHAT~Do you have a favorite National Day? If so, what is it?

Have a blessed day, y’all! See you laters! 💖

The BEST summer dessert . . .

Many places are experiencing the warmest time of year, right now. And because of that, people are constantly searching for ways to cool off underneath the summer heat. And what yummier way to do that than a cool dessert?

While there are many delicious options to choose from when it comes to sweet treats, I am a firm believer that one of the most classic, refreshing, and tasty desserts to have in the summer time is a nice scoop of ice cream. Not only is it a sweet, fresh treat for hot summer days, but there are also so many delicious flavors to choose from.

Me and Goodmommy go to a local ice cream parlor that sells award-winning homemade ice cream, and we plan to visit once again this summer. My favorite flavors are their banana pudding, plain Jane vanilla, and this super good strawberry flavor whose name I can’t recall. On our next visit, I’ll be sure to share some of the details on our favorite ice cream shop with you guys!

Okay, so there’s no question that most of us have ice cream flavors that we know and love the most. But let’s take the time to recognize one of the most popular ice cream flavors of them all; chocolate.

For National Chocolate Ice Cream Day, and summer break itself, there are so many fun ways to celebrate the wonderful invention of ice cream. Just a few ideas include visiting a local ice cream parlor in your city, and even attempting to make some homemade ice cream in your kitchen with your family.

No matter what you do to celebrate, if there’s any time to get some ice cream, it’s summer time!

LET’S CHAT~Do you like ice cream? If so, what are your favorite flavors? If not, which desserts do you prefer?

Thank y’all for joining me, today! See you next time!🍦😋🍦

My Nail Polish Collection | National Nail Polish Day

What’s up, peeps! It’s so nice to “see” you all, once again! ♡

One of the rarest topics on my blog is makeup and beauty, despite the fact that I love fashion and design. Maybe it’s due to the fact that I’m more of a natural girl–despite my go-to lip gloss, of course. That being said, when I was checking out the National Days for today, I found so many interesting topics that are addressed in June, many of which I plan to blog about, later this month. One of my discoveries was that today (June 1) is National Nail Polish Day.

Now, me and Goodmommy (my grandmother and guardian) have obtained quite a large nail polish collection over the years. Even though I haven’t painted my nails–or let Goodmommy paint them—in forever, it’s always nice to have a large variety if I ever want to try something new.

In honor of the National Day, I will be showing you all my complete nail polish collection. Let’s get this party started!

Here’s a quick preview of the majority of our collection, which is located in our medicine cabinet. I will be showing individual pictures of each of our favorite brands instead of by color. Enjoy! ♡

O.P.I

O.P.I is probably one of the most popular nail polish brands out there. The pinks and reds are probably my favorites.

L.A. Colors

A large majority of the nail polish in our collection is from L.A. Colors. But I’m kind of happy about that, considering that they have so much variety. I really love the ones with all the glitter inside.

Salon Perfect

I really love how vibrant these colors are, which may have to do with the fact that they are from the “NEON POP!” selection. Either way, pretty bright colors–particularly the blues, pinks, and purples–are some of my favorites.

Kiss:

Me and my Goodmommy both adore the color pink–if you can’t already tell–so these are super simple but chic additions to our collection.

Sally Hansen

Blue is the color of my birth stone, so I obviously love both of these. Sally Hanson nail polishes give you such a luxurious vibe. All of their colors are super rich and polished-looking, which I like tremendously.

Oh, did you think that was all? Nope! I went downstairs and saw that Goodmommy had a bunch of other nail polishes sitting on her desk. We have an additional 3 from Salon Perfect, 1 from L.A. Colors, and 3 from Sally Hansen. Behind the actual colors are a bunch of clear solutions that are mostly used to make your nails shinier, faster drying, etc. Those are mostly by Sally Hansen and a couple other smaller brands.

P.S. the picture in the back was me in 1st grade. As you all can see, I’ve all ways been as cute as a button lol.

It’s pretty surreal to see how much nail polish we actually have. But I’m not complaining. Going through our entire collection was actually pretty fun, and I thank God–and Goodmommy–for keeping us stocked with many gorgeous colors. Ironically, I’m kind of the mood to paint my nails, now.

LET’S CHAT~What do you think about our nail polish collection? And moreover, do you have one of your own?

See you next time, everyone! Toodles! ♡

End the month with a smile ♡

This is the last day of May. Wow.

While this month was pretty busy at times–since the end-of-the-year tests I had to take were a bit tiresome–I still had a great time, overall. I’m super grateful that I have a whole two months to rest on summer break. Though, I’m really looking forward to high school and my new electives–Accounting Applications and American Sign Language–when my break is over. Right now, I’m just learning to appreciate the present moment.

But the truth is, no matter what occurred during the sunny month of May, we should be sure that we end it with a smile. And while we should smile constantly, today is National Smile Day…so let’s do it even more so than usual. Laughter and smiling is the best medicine during the good and hard times–especially when we do it with the ones whom we love.

Today is just a reminder to never forget to smile, no matter what challenges life may bring. Because there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Have a blessed day, everybody! Peace in! ✨
