An open letter to my younger self…

Dear younger self,

First of all, let me say that I love you, and I know what you’re facing: I was you. While I’m not that much older than you, and I still have much to learn, I hope that you will read these words with an open heart. God has given me lots of wisdom, and like you I am learning every day. I still have things that I need to do and I still have imperfections. But through it all, God has always been there for us, and He always will be. This is the advice that I have for you.

Just be you. I know that you may look in the mirror and see imperfections. But God says that you’re beautiful, inside and out. Even with your flaws, you are the apple of His eye. Don’t ever look in the mirror and wish you looked like someone you’re not. From now on, when you look at your reflection, say “If God says that I’m beautiful, then I think so, too.” The more you say it, the more you’ll believe it. Just shine. Be the the light in the darkness that God chose you to be.

It’s okay to have just a couple friends, because sometimes “friends” can be the same people who will try to take advantage of you in your highs and abandon you in your lows. However, through it all, God is your friend. You are your friend. Goodmommy is your friend. And you might even meet one or two more friends along the way~but don’t rush it. For the Bible says that a friend will stick closer than a brother. And considering that we have a great little brother already, I know that can be pretty hard to beat, LOL.

Keeping the peace is more important than being right. I know that you’re a perfectionist. I am, too. Naturally, we want everything to be perfect all the time. Sometimes, we might think that something isn’t fair or that someone owes us an apology. We might think it in our heads. But a rule to always remember is avoid speaking everything that pops up in your brain. Every thought isn’t meant to be spoken. And if you ever need guidance, pray about it. God will tell you what to do. He’s good like that.

Don’t compare yourself to people. There will be times where you may look at someone else and think that they’ve got everything together. They may always have the biggest smile on their face. They may be popular. They may be pretty. They may be rich in money and jewels. But never forget that sometimes only God knows what’s happening beneath the surface. Rich in money is far from the same thing as rich in peace, joy, and love.

Stop worrying about what other people think about you. What do YOU think about you? What do the people who love you for who you are think about you? And most importantly, what does GOD think about you? What does He call you in His Word? These are the voices that you should listen to. The rest is nothing but background noise.

Let God fight your battle. Life might not be easy in every moment. You may need to make important decisions, and sometimes you might not know what to do. If and when these moments come, be still and listen. Let God fight for you, because He’s already won this battle. Some of the trials that we face are simply a test, where God is asking us “Will you keep your faith in Me?” In everything, God is able. And in His timing, the perfect timing, every season will pass. And with each season, God will make you stronger in Him.

With lots of love,

– Your future, teenage self ♡

If you could say anything to your younger self, what would it be? Feel free to share your thoughts in the chat. I’m super excited to hear from you!

Thank you all so much for reading! Have a beautiful and blessed day, everyone! God bless you all! ♡

Wherever You Go, Sprinkle Love – Words of Wisdom #10

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV (New International Version)
4
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. …

If you’ve ever wondered what true love is, then this scripture sums it up completely. God is love, and He showed us how much He loves us when He sent His only Son to die for us and give us eternal life, so long as we confess with our mouth that He is God and believe in our hearts that He died for us and rose 3 days later. (Romans 10:9)

As followers of Jesus Christ, it is important that we continue to be evangelists for God by spreading His love. There are many different ways to spread God’s love to others. Whether you do something for a specific person, or a simple act towards a complete stranger, spreading the love of God is always a blessing that we should act upon in our everyday lives.

Here are a few simple ways to spread the Love of God:

  • Be proactive in loving like God — If you ever have trouble with this one, please write down the scripture at the top of this post. We are told to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. (Leviticus 19:18)
  • Do simple acts of kindness — The Love of God can be shown in many ways. Sometimes, all it takes is a little kindness.
  • Learn to forgive others — Forgiveness does not have to be for the other person. Nor does the person who hurt you have to remain in your life. When we forgive, we are making sure that we are right with God and that we maintain a spirit of love and a pure heart.
  • Be a cheerful giver — This one sort of speaks for itself. The Bible says that to be a cheerful giver, we must “sow bountifully” if we want to “receive bountifully.” In other words, we need to be willing to give freely and without hesitation in order for God to bless us abundantly. (2 Corinthians 9:6-7)
  • Pray for people — This can be tough, sometimes. Particularly when it comes to praying for your enemies. But the Bible says to love your neighbors and your enemies. (Matthew 5:43-48) Sometimes praying for people means asking God to help someone that you hold close to your heart (family, friends, etc.) Other times, it can mean that you are asking God to teach us how to forgive, and to help our enemies to see His glory.

Whom Shall I Fear? | A Christian Poem

Hey, everyone~Happy Monday! ❤️ Since today is World Poetry Day, what better way to celebrate than to write a poem? The title that popped in my spirit was Whom Shall I Fear. It’s a poem based on Psalm 27:1, about how with Jesus, everything and anything is possible.

I hope that this poem will inspire you mightily. Enjoy! ❤️

Whom shall I fear?

When You are the Lord of lords, and the King of kings

You are good and Your mercy endures

As your many angels sing

Whom shall I be afraid?

When You are my stronghold and my refuge

You’re always by my side

And I can’t deny that you always pick me up, at the oh-so-perfect time

Why shall I be wary?

When You are a promise keeper; You speak truth with your words

No love of any kind compares

To how Christ loves the church

Who am I to You, my Heavenly Father?

I’m the apple of your eye

A branch of the vine

You set me free and made me Your daughter

Who can come against me?

When You have won this battle

Before any hand can touch me

No matter where I travel

So, whom shall I fear?

When You are the leader of the world

The many boys and girls

And pure white pearls

Thank You, Jesus

I know this to be true

Because of who You are, there’s nothing to fear

Hence, my godly fear for You

Overall, I had a lot of fun writing this poem. What I love about poetry is how you can use words to paint a picture. It’s almost like a painting, but you decorate the canvas with your words instead of art supplies. Plus, any creative platform that allows me to talk about the goodness of God is one that I favor.

Thank you so much for reading! Have a beautiful day, and God bless you all! ❤️

ABC, All About Me Tag | 75 follower special 🎉

What’s up, peeps! Guess what, y’all–we have officially reached 75 followers–76 including email! YAYYYYY! Before I say anything else, I want to give a huge thank you to you all. It has been less than a year (only 7 months and 2 weeks) since I’ve started The Joys and Trials of a Christian Teen, and we’ve already hit 76. I thank God for continued growth and support from my family and you all. <33

I remember that I said that I would do a special after we hit 75 followers, and so here I am. Posts that are more personalized and allow you all to get to know me better are some of my favorites. Therefore, today I’m going to do a tag called ABCs All About Me where I use each letter of the alphabet to tell you a little more about myself.

I found this idea on someone else’s blog, and I thought it was really great! I ended up changing a few of the tags to make it a little more original, so I hope you all enjoy it! <33

A – Favorite animals

Dogs, swans, dolphins, elephants, and flamingos.

B – Best facial feature — in my opinion

I would say my smile and my eyes.

C – Largest collection

I have a lot of collections, but the largest ones would probably be books–at least 150. What can I say? I love to read.

D – Dessert that I love

Cheesecake is my all-time favorite dessert. I want to have it at my wedding, in the future LOL.

E – Most preferred form of entertainment (books, movies, tv shows, video games, etc.)

It’s a tie between books and video games. But I really love tv shows and movies, too.

F – Favorite soul food

If you are unfamiliar with soul food, it is a type of cuisine that is traditionally prepared by families in the rural south. It’s eaten by people all across the country. My personal favorites are fried chicken, mac and cheese, and cornbread.

G – Greatest decision

The greatest decision of mine is the choice to follow Jesus and become saved.

H – My height

Although I don’t know my exact height, I am approximately around 5’1-5’3. I’ve always been one of the tallest kids in my class.

I – In love with

Reading–there’s nothing like the wonders of a good book.

J – My dream job

An award-winning, published author and business owner.

K – What most people don’t know about me

I accepted Jesus as my savior at the age of 4 in a Sam’s parking lot.

L – The languages I can speak

It’s probably obvious by now that I can speak fluent English LOL. I’ve also been in a Spanish class in Preschool and then again in 6th and 7th grade (Beginner and Intermediate.) My grandfather is Spanish. I’m definitely not an expert, but I’m not necessarily a beginner either. I can also do a little American Sign Language. One of my cousins is in the deaf community, so that really made me want to learn–yay for progress!<33

M – Favorite music genres

I actually have several; number 1 is gospel, then following that would be classical, pop, and jazz. I’m a music lover in general, so I also enjoy music from other cultures, too. I couldn’t image a world without music.

N – Real name

Although I am known as ajoyfulChristianteen or Princess Q on my blog, my real name is Q’Zion.

O – Unpopular opinion

I think vegetables do taste good–most people just don’t season them enough.

P – Personality

I am very godly, intelligent, quiet (but more outspoken once you get to know me), a perfectionist, funny, sometimes serious, artistic, an optimist-realist, responsible, and unique. Laughter is one of my favorite qualities–I’m that one friend who’s not afraid to laugh with you when you do something funny. And maybe laugh at you too, LOL.

Q – Quote I live by

Psalm 27:1 ~ The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?

R – Largest relationship priority (family, friends, etc.)

Honesty. I don’t think that any relationship can be a healthy one unless both people are honest with each other. It’s one of my most predominant values and parts of my personality.

S – Number of siblings

I have 2 siblings–a little brother and sister. As a little extra fun fact, I’m also the oldest in my generation with 6 younger cousins.

T – Favorite television series

To be honest, this varies according to the type of series.

Cooking/baking shows: Cake and Cupcake Wars, Beat Bobby Flay, MasterChef

Animated shows: The Owl House, Amphibia, Big City Greens, LEGO Friends: Girls on a Mission, SpongeBob SquarePants, Miraculous Ladybug

Live-action series: That’s so Raven, Good Luck Charlie, Sam & Cat, Alice (a sitcom from the 70s that Goodmommy watched as a kid. I watched it and immediately fell in love with the show.)

U – Unique quality

Considering that I already know what I want to do as far as my career goes (writer, entrepreneur, after college), I would say that makes me unique. At my age, most teenagers are contemplating what they want to do after school, but I already have a plan for what I want to do with my career.

V – Dream vacation location

I think it would be super cool to go to Hawaii, France, and/or Africa, one day!

W – Worst habit

I honestly don’t have a lot of bad habits, at all–definitely not any of the ones that are harmful for my health. However, one of them would be biting my nails. At one point, I had stopped doing so when I frequently got my nails painted, but now, I prefer to keep them polish-less unless its for a special occasion. That probably has something to do with it LOL. Goodmommy is very supportive in always helping me to make progress towards breaking the habit. I thank God for her.

X – X-rays I’ve had

None. I’ve never broken any bones, before. I guess you could count the x-rays that you get at the dentist’s office, though. In that case, probably about two. P.S. I’ve never had a cavity in my life.

Y – Your comfort movies
Comfort movies are basically feel-good movies that you like to revisit over and over–a favorite movie that makes you feel better when you need a little cheering up. Some of my comfort movies are Overcomer, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, and the Secret Life of Pets.

Z – Zany memory

One of my zaniest memories was the day my last betta fish before Peace, Joyus, jumped out of his tank during a water change. It’s definitely not a secret, since I’ve written about it before, but it’s definitely a memory that I won’t ever forget.

Giving you all some more “background information” on myself, my interests, and my personality was a lot of fun, and I really hope you enjoyed this post to celebrate this awesome new milestone on my blog.

It truly is a blessing to be able to have this creative outlet to spread the Good Word and every day positivity to you all, and I truly am thankful for this opportunity to spread the love of God.

Have a beautiful and blessed day, everyone! Peace in! 🎉

A poem to women and girls around the world: Happy International Women’s Day ♡

March 8th is also known as International Women’s Day: a day to acknowledge women and girls, God’s creations, as well as their contributions, progress, advances, and value in today’s world as we know it. Although every day is International Women’s Day, this is yet another opportunity for us to come together and celebrate each other, just as we are, in love.

Of course, I had to slide some Bible scriptures in here. It’s always nice to hear some words of wisdom. Here are a few empowering Bible Verses about women and their strength in the Lord. I hope you enjoy! ❤

Proverbs 31:26
She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

Luke 1:45
"Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

1 Corinthians 11: 11-12
Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.

1 Corinthians 15:10
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

Last but not least is the poem that I wrote today for (and to) women and girls around the world to read with loving and hopeful hearts. I absolutely LOVE poetry, so it’s always exciting when God gives me a new idea to write something new. All Rights Reserved.

Some may think we aren't strong enough
That we must be stout to sit at the front end
But that's far from the big picture, you see
What they may break, we can mend

For although we might not have muscles
That can strike the hardest of steel
We do have the mentality and grace
To love, to nurture, and to heal

Love that's true, love that's real
Love that's in a home cooked meal
A hug and a kiss to seal
Love that no one can conceal

And, yes, we are feminine
But that doesn't mean we're weak
We come in many shapes and forms
And even when we're silent, we speak

Sure, we are different;
Me and you aren't the same
Nor our backgrounds, hometowns, and kin
Nor our names or our frames
But no need to be disdained

Let's come together
Celebrate each other
Love one another
As we would a sister or brother

For, although we’re not the same
At the end of the day
No one can take away our love
Because love always wins
And we’re all sisters beneath the skin

Thank you all so much for reading! Please take this time to share your gratitude to all of the wonderful, strong, and powerful women in your lives who are always there; every step of the way. I definitely thank God for the woman of God that He’s put in the place to raise me with Him. And you see, that’s what this day is about–appreciating the woman who have treated us with kindness and passed their wisdom from the Lord to the next generation.

Be Natural. Be Beautiful. Be YOU.

Beauty is skin deep. Sure. It may sound a little cheesy, and you’ve probably heard it a zillion times. You might even be tired of hearing it. But, despite how cliche it might be, this saying is absolutely true.

Valentine’s Day is about love, which is wonderful because God is love. And while February 14th is centered around the love we have for others, we also mustn’t neglect appreciating and loving who God made us to be.

Tomorrow is International Natural Day, also known as International Day of Self-love. Y’all already know that that’s a biggie on my blog. So, of course, I had to discuss it today. Whether you have a partner or not, the days before Valentine’s Day are to help remind us that we don’t need everyone’s validation.

It is a chance for us to realize and believe that we are all precious in God’s eyes. He said that we are the apple of His eye. And don’t be mistaken; God doesn’t look at what we look at. People will look at height and outward appearance. But God looks at our hearts. And as long as our Heavenly Father is pleased with us, both how we live our lives and who we are inside, then that is all the validation that we need.

Valentine’s Day is a day for us all to celebrate both inner and natural beauty. It is also to show those who we love, and who the Lord has placed in our lives to love us just the way we are, that we appreciate them, care for them, and are thankful for them.

And mind you, self-love doesn’t mean that we should be cocky or arrogant. It doesn’t mean that we should be putting ourselves on a pedestal. The first commandment is to love the Lord our God with ALL our soul, with ALL of our mind, and with ALL of our strength. The second is to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. (Mark 12:30-31 NIV) God ALWAYS comes first.

When I say “self-love” I mean coming to terms with the fact that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s image. Living our lives as Jesus Christ sees fit, and respecting ourselves because we know that God loved us enough to give His one and only son to die for our sins.

“Self-love” is knowing that we are worth it because God sees worth in us. If God, the King of kings and Lord of lords loves us so much as to give up His only child, then we must be worth loving. We are worth loving because God loves us.

Have a beautiful day, everyone! Always remember that God IS love! ✨

Rest Well – Words of Wisdom #4

Genesis 2:2-3 NIV (New International Version)
2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

The words of wisdom in the Bible hold a lot of meaning. And this section, in particular, stands out to me, a lot.

I find it amazing that even God Himself: the Lord of lords and King of kings, rested on the seventh day. He worked during the first six days–He created the world and everything in the world. And when He was done, He rested.

Now, we notice that the Bible just calls the Sabbath day “the seventh day.” We can conclude that this is technically Saturday, the seventh and last day of the week. While this is important, what I really want you to know is “Sabbath” means a day of rest or absence from work.

We don’t all have the same exact schedule–some people are off of work on Saturday, and others on Sunday. Some factors are simply out of our control. What matters is that when our time allows we take a break from work, and rest. That will likely be a day or two out of the week. It doesn’t have to be a lengthy period of time.

When we get our rest, we aren’t only resting our bodies, but also our minds. If we’re always on the go, then we will eventually get burnt out.

It’s just like how our bodies need sleep everyday–if we don’t get it, they can malfunction. That’s just how God made us.

We need at least one day out of the week as a break from work to regain our energy. As we work, we should put in our absolute best effort. In order to continue that same mindset, we need to take care of ourselves, too.

So it’s okay to take a rest from time to time. When we do our best work: good work, then a break is well deserved.

And if God rested, then we can, and should, too.

Have a beautiful and blessed day, everyone! What you think about rest? ❤️

Reading the Word of God – Words of Wisdom #3

Having a healthy relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ, is important for so many reasons. It’s a blessing to be able to talk to Him, bond with Him, and spend time with Him. And a huge part of my relationship with God is continuing to learn who He is.

It’s actually very similar to forming a relationship with any other person: in order to have a positive relationship with someone, you have to know who they are. The same applies with the Lord.

He already knows who we are. In fact, He knows more about us than we know about ourselves. But a relationship goes two ways. And that means, we need to spend time meditating on the Holy Bible, and sending our thanks and prayers to God to learn who He is and how He wants us, followers of Christ, to live.

God not only shows us who He is by the miracles that He preforms in our everyday lives, but also in His Word. I made a goal for 2022, and the rest of my life, to spend more time with the Lord. Me and Goodmommy have been having frequent Bible studies ever since the 1st of January, and we are both learning a lot, even despite the fact that she already knew a lot of the Holy Bible.

Before this year, I did know some of the stories of the Bible, as well: Noah’s Ark, Adam and Eve, The Crossing of the Red Sea, etc. However, what I love is that when you take the time to read the Word of God, there’s always something new to learn. New wisdom to receive.

No matter how much I think I know, God is always teaching me something new. Something that I never knew before.

In short, I’m thankful for my time spent with the Lord. He truly is an amazing God.

5 Reasons Why You Should Give and Get More Hugs

When’s the last time someone gave you a warm hug? In fact, when’s the last time you’ve given someone else a loving embrace? I don’t know if you’ve heard about this before, but it is recommended that we all get at least 12 hugs a day. That’s right: at least. And since it’s National Hugging Day, I think it’s the perfect time to talk about warm hugs.

So bring it in as I share 5 Reasons Why You Should Give and Get More Hugs. ✨

1. Hugs can make us happier.

When you get a hug from someone that you know cares about you, you can feel the love in their embrace. Hugging releases a chemical in your brain called oxytocin, which is associated with, you guessed it, happiness. But, I don’t blame our brains for getting happier with a hug: they feel so good!

2. They can help create stronger bonds.

Hugging is not just wrapping your arms around someone; hugging is when you communicate through an embrace. The wonderful thing about a hug is that it can say “I love you,” or “I’m thankful for you,” or “Everything is going to be alright,” without the need for words. It’s a simple action that can have a huge influence on how close we are to our hug buddies. So, if you want to make your close bonds even stronger, try hugs. You might be surprised at how much more solid your relationships, and communication skills, become.

3. They show that we care.

When you wrap your arms around someone else, you can occasionally feel how that one embrace made their day even brighter. Knowing that you were able to put a little extra sunshine in someone else’s life can automatically cause a sense of happiness and the accomplishment of showing kindness.

4. Hugging can help us feel secure and at peace.

As we are embraced and we embrace others, we are giving and getting comfort. There’s nothing like a warm cuddle to make you feel safe. Hugs are known to reduce anxiety and stress because of this. In fact, the word hug comes from the Norwegian word “hugga” which literally means to comfort or console. No wonder why hugs are so pleasant!

5. Hugs are good for the body and soul.

Hugs make our hearts go pitter-patter. I’m not joking. Well..maybe a little bit, lol. But really, though; hugs actually boost the heart, lower blood pressure, strengthen our immune systems, relieve pain, and the list goes on! The sense of happiness and security that our bodies and minds obtain from a hug become present in our spirits just the same. Once our souls are happy, our minds and bodies are likely happy, too.

There are so many great things about hugs: they’re healthy for our bodies, help form stronger bonds, make us happier and feel at peace, and they show those who we love that we care. Spread the love by giving hugs to your family and friends. Oh, and on top of that, hug yourself, too!

It can be easy to want to be loved. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, we have to remember that if we want a little love, we need to give a little love, in return. Don’t forget; even if you hug yourself, try to get at least 12 every single day. You will reap the many positive consequences, if you do. So go ahead and hug it out.

Have a happy, healthy, and blessed day, everyone! Bye!✨

Words of Wisdom #1

Hey everyone! I was brainstorming about some things that I could write about today, and I decided that it would be nice to start a series that will be called “Words of Wisdom.”

Although the posts in this series will vary as far as dates go, when I do post one, I will share either a Bible scripture, an inspiring quote, or maybe even something that I’ve learn and/or God’s showed me to share with you all. It’s pretty much just a series to spread the Good Word and further inspire people to walk with God, and live life to the fullest, in Him.

So, let’s start “Words of Wisdom” off strong with a Bible verse that I think we all need to hear.

2 Chronicles 7:14-15 NIV - 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.

Read that again, and then I’ll get back to you.

You read it? Good! Let’s continue.

What I really want us to pay attention to is what God said for His people to do before He forgives their sin and heal their land:

  • Humble themselves; be willing to admit that you need God’s help to be healed.
  • Pray; God wants us to tell Him our troubles. He wants to have a relationship with us, and that means that we need to communicate with Him.
  • Seek His face; we must be humble enough, in all things, to seek Him.
  • Turn away from their wicked ways; repenting for our sins is not just saying the words. God wants to see if our actions will correspond with our words.

I hope you all enjoyed the first addition to “Words of Wisdom.” I’ll see you later!
