Old-Fashioned Apple Pie (my first free-verse poem) 🥧

To be honest, it’s been a minute since I’ve had any type of pie. At least that was the case until Goodmommy bought us an apple pie yesterday. And as you guys can see, it looked (and tastes) delicious! While we always make sure to keep plenty of snacks in the house, I will admit that the occasional pie (especially apple or sweet potato) is one of my favorite desserts.

If you haven’t been notified yet, April is considered National Poetry Month, so I see it as the perfect opportunity for me polish my poetic writing skills.

As some of you may have noticed, I usually write poetry with a specific rhyme scheme or order. This time, however, I am going to attempt writing a free-verse poem for the first time. It was a little tough to write a poem that does NOT rhyme; it’s kind of become a muscle memory.

But trying new things and getting outside of your comfort zone can be crucial to improving any skill. So I hope you all enjoy reading my poem!

A golden shell
flakes away
As warm, bright apples
dance along my tongue
Criss-crossed crust
Gaps every couple bites
Sweet mingles with succulent
In an old-fashioned
apple pie

In my mouth
the dessert takes flight
Like a butterfly that flutters with grace
Across the light blue sky
Every bite makes you want another
It’s hard to say goodbye
To the perfect treat to munch
On a friendly,
family Sunday brunch

And when the journeys over
You look down at your plate
And see nothing but humble crumbs

Well, the process of writing this work of art was a fun ride to say the least. It’s not often that I decide to write about food, so this was a challenge that I quite enjoyed. Learning how to write without having an assigned format is one way to step out the box, a little. And in my opinion, we all need that once in a while.

LET’S CHAT~Have you ever written a poem? If so, have you ever written free-verse?

Have a blessed day, everybody! God bless you all! 🥧

Random Acts of Kindness – Why We Should Do Them

Ephesians 4:32 NIV (New International Version)
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Kindness is one of the fruits of the spirit; it is a way to spread God’s everlasting love. Not only that, but showing kindness is simply a nice thing to do–it is a way to make someone’s day brighter. And today is the perfect day to talk about kindness. Why? Because it is Random Act of Kindness Day! Although I’ve already posted several posts with this subject on my blog, today is especially special.

It isn’t always the big actions that mean the most–sometimes something as small as a hug, a letter, or a compliment can make the biggest difference; bigger then we might think or imagine. Kindness can come in many forms. Not to mention that it’s good for our health (it’s good for our immune system, good for our heart, and it can reduce anxiety and depression.) It feels great to be kind!

Here is a list of some of my past posts pertaining to the subject of kindness. Enjoy!

Kindness is selfless, understanding, and loving. Not only should we practice being kind to those who we call our allies (family, friends, etc.) but we should even be kind to our enemies. The Bible says that if we forgive others for their wrongdoings our Heavenly Father will forgive us. If we don’t forgive others, then we aren’t forgiven by God. (Matthew 6:14-15) And believe it or not, forgiveness is a form of kindness.

Besides, God shows us kindness every second of every day. Why shouldn’t we follow in His footsteps and do the same for others as God is always doing for us?

Have a beautiful and blessed day, everyone! ✨

Radiant in red to honor heart disease victims

As you all know (if you saw yesterday’s post, that is) today is National Wear Red Day! Yesterday, I wrote about the reason behind National Wear Red Day—to honor the women and men who have passed due to heart disease and/or stroke. I also explained what we can do as support towards the strides to lower these statistics. And one of the most predominant strategies that I mention was wearing red!

But, of course, it wasn’t enough to just say what we can do to support this amazing cause: I wanted to put my words in action. Check out me and Goodmommy looking radiant in red as a tribute to American Heart Month.

Of course, we had to do our normal routine and take an entire photo shoot once we got home, LOL. But I’m happy that we were able to make a statement through both fashion and color: two different methods of expression that blend to a tee.

Any time with Goodmommy is a treat, but we sure had a lot of fun going out today. Even though we mostly did just errands, Goodmommy was super sweet to buy us both a strawberry milkshake with red cherries on top. We didn’t actually eat the cherries. But the color of our milkshakes were pink, a color in the same family as red. So technically, we second-handedly added another red(ish) element to our National Wear Red Day.

I hope you enjoyed this quick read. Hopefully, you had fun celebrating National Wear Red Day, as well!

Have a beautiful, blessed, and red day, y’all! God is Good! ❤️✨❤️

Let’s end 2021 the right way!

Let’s end 2021 the right way!

– ajoyfulChristianteen ♛

Can y’all believe it? 2021 has almost come to an end. Like every year, this one has had its ups and downs, however, I won’t complain, for many blessings have come for me and my family. Each year I become wiser, stronger, and my relationship with Jesus continues to grow. Every year is a chance for growth, wisdom, and new experiences that help us learn.

The new year, 2022, will be here before we know it. We need to make sure that we are ending this year efficiently, so that way we can go into another year with happy and healthy hearts, minds, and spirits.

To elaborate on this, here are a few tips for ending this year merrily:

  • Reflect on all of the progress that you made. By recognizing how we have changed or improved this year can help us find a sense of closer and achievement. As well, it can help you identify the things that you are still working on, and can do to complete your goals before and throughout 2022.
  • Start making resolutions for the New Year. When January first comes around, it can be difficult to make efficient New Year’s Resolutions. Start brainstorming in advance about what your resolutions will be to prepare your mind and body for possible future changes.
  • Make sure you are at peace with your family. One of the worse things you can start a new year with is a grudge. If you have any hard feelings with any family members, make sure to forgive them and possibly reconcile. Remember, tomorrow on this Earth is never a promise.
  • Forgive yourself for the mistakes you made. As humans, we are not perfect, and we never will be. No year is without mistakes, so if you still feel guilt for any of those you’ve committed, forgive yourself. Use your mistakes as learning opportunities on how you can improve the next year.
  • Clean your mind and your environment. A healthy mind is crucial for a productive life. However, something that goes hand in hand with that is a great environment. Clean your home and do some relaxing activities (yoga, spa day, skygazing, etc.) with your family to help keep your home a happy place to be!

Bonus: We Baked Peanut Butter Cookies!

Today, me and Goodmommy did some more baking. We made peanut butter cookies! The cookies are so soft on the inside, and they have hit just the right spot, considering that I’ve had a taste for peanut butter cookies for a while. Additionally, making the little design on top with a fork was really fun, as baking with Goodmommy always is! Spending time with family is another great way to end the year.

I had fun sharing how we can end this year strong. A positive start to next year is a sturdy stepping stone for the future. Therefore, by making sure that we are spiritually, physically, mentally, and environmentally in-check is crucial to making the most of this new chapter: a brand new year!

Have a beautiful day, everyone! ♛

🌟 Merry Christmas Eve 🌟 | Blogmas Day 17

I woke up pretty late today…around 1:00 p.m. I’ve enjoyed sleeping in ever since Winter Break started.

When I went downstairs, I was so filled with joy to see the presents under the tree. There’s just something about it that makes the whole thing feel complete. The presents compliment the tree’s red and gold hues, every light hard to miss.

Stripes, symmetrical squares, shimmering gold, and snowflakes gently placed on the fragile gift wrapping that was so intricately folded around the red, white, and gold jewels that lie beneath the tree. And that golden angel on the top wraps it up like each crisp bow does it’s present. The heart represents the center of Christmas itself: the birth of Jesus, who has inspired the celebration that we come together to celebrate every year.

Although I consider myself a very grateful person, I must admit that during the Christmas season, my heart becomes fuller and fuller with gratitude; towards God, and my family, particularly Goodmommy.

Gifts are something that we often categorize as items or things, but the best gift of all is the Lord. Every day, we are blessed with life, love, peace, and family. A Christmas tree with gifts underneath are honestly just extras compared to the blessings that we receive every day.

I think that not only is Christmas about what you receive (presents, etc.), but it’s more so about being grateful for what you already have. Christmas wouldn’t be the same without those things in life that some take for granted.

A Go-To Guide on How to Make Successful New Year’s Resolutions | Blogmas Day 16

A Go-To Guide on How to Make Successful New Year’s Resolutions

-ajoyfulchristianteen 🎉

While every year is a blessing, no year is perfect. Therefore, many people find themselves wanting to change something and do better the next year. These targets that we set for ourselves as January comes around are called New Year’s Resolutions.

Making these resolutions are a method to practice reaching your goals and bettering yourself as a person, and they are very healthy ways to start off a new year. But there’s one catch: they aren’t always easy to write and do successfully.

Here’s a helpful guide on how to effectively write New Year’s Resolutions that are reachable, productive, and purposeful!

  • Pick a few, realistic resolutions – Many people will fill a sheet of paper or more with resolutions that they might not finish as the year comes to an end. If you are a goal-getter, then go for it! However, it might be a better idea to pick a few goals (realistic ones). This will allow you to focus more on each specific resolution, rather than juggling a dozen. The least we want to do with our resolutions is put ourselves in a crunch.
  • Start preparing ahead of time. Physically and mentally – Truthfully, change can be a hard thing. Resolutions are essentially changes, some of which can be stopping an addiction or an unhealthy habit. Whatever your resolution(s) are, take the time before January to prepare yourself for your goals. It might help to slowly start your goal beforehand, that way your mind and body has some time to adjust to the unfamiliar changes.
  • Write them down Believe it or not, we can easily forget things if we don’t write them down. Having documentation of your goals, especially with a signature, is an agreement with yourself that you will push through and complete your resolutions. Not only that, but it is a visual way to help you remember what you want to do for the year.
  • Be specific – Often, when making our resolutions, we tend to speak about our goals in general. However, in order to set a stable path for success, you need to be specific with your details, making sure that you know exactly what you will be doing, and by when you want to complete each resolution.

Here are some examples of general vs. specific New Year’s Resolutions:

  • “I want to lose weight.” vs. “I want to lose 50 pounds by Christmas Day of (insert year.)”
  • “I want to have a healthier diet.” vs. “I want to eat 2 cups of vegetables every day from this day, (insert date), forward.”
  • “I want to save more money.” vs. “I will only go on a shopping spree (for unnecessary items) a maximum of once a month in the year of (insert year.)
  • Explain your resolutions to a confidant. – Some resolutions might be private, and if so, that’s okay. But a good idea to help you remain determined is by telling your New Year’s Resolutions to a confidant (family member, friend, etc.) Doing so will help hold you accountable to your words, and the confidant of choice can help keep you on track!
  • Make large goals smaller by splitting them into sections. – While healthy goals are great, we as humans may try to put too much on our own shoulders. Instead of making long, complicated goals, split them into smaller sections.

Here is an example of how you can make a large goal smaller:

Main Goal: I want to loose 50 pounds in the year of (insert year.)

  • I will eat 2,000 calories per day.
  • I will exercise for at least 30 minutes every day.
  • I will loose 4 pounds, 2 ounces every month.
  • Be prepared to reward yourself. – If when the end of the year comes around, you have completed your goal, I can say one thing to you: Congratulations! It’s about time that you congratulate yourself with a healthy reward. You worked hard to reach your goal! Now that you have done what’s best for your health, it’s time to give yourself a pat on the back!

If you don’t remember anything else from this guide, keep in mind that change is an adjustment that takes getting used to. Change can be a good thing, however, with work, determination, and dedication, I’m sure that all of your resolutions will be met!

Have a beautiful day, everyone! 🎉

Pearls are ALWAYS Appropriate

Pearls are ALWAYS Appropriate

-ajoyfulchristianteen 🤍

What is fashion without the jewelry? Accessories are beautiful tools to help enhance our inner and outer beauty, and that includes what we wear.

While all types of gems can be just as becoming, there is one in particular that simply CANNOT be replaced! Pearls! And since today is National Wear Your Pearls Day, there’s no better time to discuss these delicate beauties!

Pearls are a symbol of wisdom, good fortune, femininity, long life, and elegance. Basically, all the good stuff in a nutshell…or an oyster, in this case, lol.

What I love about pearls is that they can go with absolutely anything, from a fancy prom dress to a simple tee with jeans. They never go out of style, and are a classic edition to any outfit!

Pearls are unique for many more reasons then their delicate appearances. They are the only gems known to men that come from living organisms. Not to mention that natural pearls are one of the most rare jewels in the world!

Fact Pearl-fection

I hope you all enjoy some of your pearls today, and/or blessed someone else with some. Jewelry allows us to express ourselves and our unique style. So never be afraid to rock some pearls!

3 Creative Ways to Make Brownies that Taste Like Christmas | Blogmas Day 6

3 Creative Ways to Make Brownies that Taste like Christmas

-ajoyfulchristianteen ✨

Happy Wednesday, y’all! I don’t know if you guys have heard yet, but today is National Brownie Day! Brownies are a dessert fit for any time of the year. They’re fudgy, slightly crunchy, and moist, if they’re made right. But, we don’t want just any brownie. We want a brownie that screams “Christmas!”

I wanted to share the brownie mix that I like to use to make delicious brownies. It’s from a brand called Ghiradelli, specifically the Double Chocolate Premium Brownie Mix. It includes chocolate chips, which make the brownie melt in your mouth. Perfect for National Brownie Day!

Keep on reading for some creative things that you can do to make your brownies reflect the Christmas spirit! ✨

1. Incorporate Classic Holiday Flavors

You know those flavors that effortlessly say “Christmas?” Peppermint, pumpkin, raspberry, ginger, and caramel are just a few examples. Incorporate one of these flavors into a brownie, and see what you think. Adding a flavor that compliments this time of year along with chocolate can make a really sweet treat!

2. Use Innovative Shapes

While the taste of a brownie is super important, cutting them into creative shapes can make them even more of a joy to eat. Use your creativity when shaping your brownies into different forms like a Christmas tree, heart, star, or candy cane. And don’t be afraid to decorate! If you do, they will surely add some Christmas color to your dinner table.

3. Make Cheesecake Brownies

One of my favorite holiday desserts, or desserts in general, is cheesecake. It’s creamy, simple, and a classic that never gets old. But what about a brownie cheesecake? Sounds delicious! While both are great on their own, I’m sure that they would be even better together!

Oh great! Now I want some chocolate, lol. Hopefully, you now have some creative ideas to help you elevate your brownies and make them scream “Christmas!”

Have an amazing day, y’all! ✨

My Favorite Posts that I Believe Everyone Can Enjoy

My Favorite Posts that I Believe Everyone Can Enjoy

-ajoyfulchristianteen 💜

Hey everyone! Believe it or not, I’ve written over 125 posts on my blog! What a blessing! And, to be honest, although I think every post is great, some of them stand out to me. I really want to make sure that people who need them are able to read my encouraging words.

Today, I will be sharing some of my favorite posts on my blog, The Joys and Trials of a Christian Teen, that I believe everyone can enjoy!

1 Month, 1 Pic – 2021 Selfies

I really like this post, because I got to see all my selfies together (one pic for each month of 2021 until November) and see the person that I’ve become this year. I think I’m improving in so many ways, but in others, I have stayed exactly the same! Memories are everything!

5 Things to Consider if You’re Holding a Grudge

I think that we all need to sit back and just think sometimes. Holding grudges are not uncommon in places all around the world, and I really wanted to share why I think that doing so is unproductive in more ways then one. These are the type of posts where I step back and think about what I’m writing. It’s important to me that I can connect to what I’m telling my readers.

A Teenager’s Ultimate Guide to Fashion

If you can’t already tell, I absolutely love fashion! Not only do I enjoy it, but I also love seeing other people smile when they feel confident in their outfits. I love how this post really went in depth with the topic of fashion, and explained how everyone, teenager or not, should wear clothes that make them look and feel amazing!

20 Inspiring Quotes to Boost Your Self Esteem

This is absolutely one of my favorite posts. I really enjoyed researching quotes by public figures, that many people look up to share their wisdom. I love to talk about self esteem and self love, since I feel like it is so lacking in society, especially in my generation (Generation Z). I think the quotes that I was lead to include hold a lot of truth and power in a nutshell.

5 Qualities that I Value in a True Friend

Real friends are rare these days, and when you have one or a few, it’s important that you cherish them. Although everyone is not a friend, I believe God’s Word to be true, which says, “but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24)

I hope you all liked me explaining which posts I hold dear to my heart, as well as my explanation of why. Feel free to go check out the links of each post (or the headings) if you haven’t read some of the other pages on my blog already. Thanks so much for stopping by!
