Just Me . . . Having the Best Birthday Ever!!!

As I mentioned in my last post, a special day was right around the corner that I wanted to share with you guys. And that special day was (drumroll, please) my birthday! I know that I say this every year, but me and Goodmommy had such a blast, and I still can’t hush up about how hyped I am.

Even though birthdays come back every year, they’re a really big deal. It’s not just a day about you, but also a celebration of the beautiful and wonderful gift of life that God has blessed us with. Life has it’s ups and downs for everyone, but the fact that we are still breathing is a blessing within itself. In reality, every day is worth celebrating.

Sending time with Goodmommy is always a blast, and I want to share how we spent our special day with all of you, as well! Okay, enough of the chatter, now! My 2022 birthday post is a go!

Our first stop was probably one of my favorites out of the whole day; and it was only just beginning! We decided to stop at Claire’s to do something that we’ve been talking about for years–getting my second ear piercing! And considering that Claire’s has been known for piercing ears for decades—or 40 years, to be exact—we thought it would be a great place to get the job done.

I actually got my first ear piercing when I was a few months old, so I obviously don’t remember anything from that experience–though Goodmommy’s retelling of my baby-self’s reaction always makes me giggle. As a result, I never knew how it felt to get your ear’s pierced before my birthday, so I was naturally a little nervous. But considering that I handle shots so well, I knew that this was going to be a walk in the park.

Despite our original plan to get the silver cross, we decided to get a stainless-steel star after the reccomendation to get a smaller earring. And I immediately fell in love with the results–it’s small, sweet, and simple. I can’t thank Goodmommy enough for getting me my second piercing! In fact, I loved it so much that I may even get another one, in a few years.

Before we left our house, Goodmommy shared with me that she was contemplating taking me to a surprise destination for my birthday celebration, and I was over the moon to find out that it was Barnes and Nobles–my favorite bookstore.

If you’re a frequent visitor of my blog, you already know how I feel about books. And what I really appreciate about Barnes & Nobles is they’re variety–not only with the genres of their books, but with the types of items that they sell, too! As soon as I saw on a sign that the Young Readers’ section was upstairs, we took a ride on the escalator and searched around the entire second floor.

After a few minutes of searching, I finally found the section in question, and I couldn’t have been more excited by the shelves of novels that stood before me. I really love how this section in particular had literature that varied from pictures books to upper-middle grade, which makes it appropriate for a large range of ages.

We ended up purchasing three awesome novels–one of which was a graphic novel–for about ten bucks each. Another one of them was on my TBR (or to be read) list for this year, so I was super grateful for the opportunity to finally read it! Oh, and don’t worry, y’all; I’ll be posting all the book reviews for each one soon. ;))

So, I’m a firm believer that birthday’s don’t have to break the bank. But a simple piece of cake is always nice. And that’s why our next stop was no other than The Cheesecake Factory. Now, in case I’ve never mentioned this on my blog, cheesecake is one of my absolute favorite desserts, and we hadn’t had a slice for like, two years. So as anyone would assume, I was greatly anticipating eating a slice.

Me and Goodmommy are on a health journey, so it was a little shocking–to say the least–to see the amount of calories in a slice of each cheesecake. Seriously though, one slice is like half of the calories for the day! And although all of the options looked absolutely delicious, we both decided to stick with the classics–a slice of Cheesecake Factory’s original cheesecake.

After we saw the fact that it was a full house inside the restaurant, we decided to eat our delicious treats in the car. But I didn’t mind, at all; we had a close up view of the entire food court section of the mall!

To all of the cheesecake fans who don’t think they’d like the plain original, I’ve got to press the fact that The Cheesecake Factory knows what they’re doing. The piece of cheesecake had the perfect amount of sweetness, and the soft texture of the cream cheese melted in your mouth with the perfect serving of sour cream to eat with every bite. What can I say? If you’re looking for a tasteful—and delicious—dessert with fewer calories, the Classic is probably the way to go, in my opinion.

While that sweet surprise was absolutely delicious, we wanted to work off some of those calories. So we ended up making our last stop at Celebration Station, which is this amusement park full of rides (go-karts, water karts, roller coasters, etc.) and an arcade.

After entering the building, we decided to buy a couple hundred coins and explore the arcade. It was actually my first time ever visiting this place, so when I looked it up and saw the booming reviews, I was really anticipating exploring. And trust me, it didn’t disappoint!

What I find so captivating about arcades are all the bright lights. As someone who’s naturally attracted to colors, I got excited by seeing the games. There were so many games to play. And I have to admit that most of them are super addicting!

One of the first games that I played was a massive claw machine that was full of large bags of 5,000 tickets. I tried it about three times, and I got a good grip on all three tries. But as always, the grabber didn’t seem like it was strong enough. Boy, I would’ve really loved those tickets; just imagine the prices I could’ve won.

After about a half hour of exploring, we decided to check out the additional games located upstairs, and Goodmommy’s eyes lit up when she spotted two huge pool tables. She’s told me several times how she used to play pool years ago, but I never had the opportunity to play pool with her. That is, until my birthday.

At first, I was struggling with getting a good grip on the pool stick, but eventually I got the swing of it, and I was able to hit the balls. Practice makes improvement!

But honestly, seeing how happy it made Goodmommy to play a game of pool with me is what really made it all worthwhile. Just look at her!

Finally, here’s a quick selfie of me to get a closer look at my outfit. Goodmommy did such an awesome job on my hair, didn’t she? She really made me feel special on my special day, and I am forever grateful to her for that.

I have to admit that this birthday was genuinely the best that I’ve ever had. Sure, I say that every time my b-day arrives, but my 2022 celebration is going to be hard to beat. I thank God for letting me and my Goodmommy having such a blast! I hope we get to make many, many more blessed birthday memories together, for many, many, many, many, many more years to come!

A True Friend – Words of Wisdom #20

One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

There are many precious relationships that we develop in our lifetime. But one of the most precious of them all are our friends. Although no friendship is perfect–and like all relationships, have their ups and downs–true friends are there when you need them. They’re people who make us laugh, who we go to when we’re feeling down, stay with us through thick and thin, build us up, and bring us closer to God through their everlasting love.

Sometimes, it can be hard to evaluate whether our friendships are truly genuine. What is a good friend? And furthermore, what can we do to be a good friend? Well, the Bible covers everything that we need to know in life, and the subject of friendship is no exception.

August 7th, also known as National Friendship Day, is a day for us to celebrate some of the most special people in our lives. Therefore, today’s episode of Words of Wisdom, we will be discussing the subject, “What does the Word of God define as a true friend?” Let’s get started!

The Bible says that true friends:

  • Stick closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24)
  • Pray for their friends (Job 42:10)
  • Encourage and build up one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
  • Do not associate with gossip. (Proverbs 16:28)
  • Forgive one another (Colossians 3:13, Proverbs 16:28)
  • Love each other at all times–even through conflicts. (Proverbs 27:10)
  • Are a positive influence (1 Corinthians 15:33)
  • Bring out the best in each other. (Proverbs 27:17)

As you can probably tell, true friends are very hard to find. Therefore, it can be tricky for some people to tell who their real friends really are. Keep in mind that we shouldn’t create unrealistic expectations when looking for a friend–like us, they are people who make mistakes. That’s why sometimes, breaks are needed in a friendship.

But at the end of the day, as we continue to study what the Lord says in His Word, as well as seek Him for help when we need it, then the people who are our real friends–and how we can be better friends–will begin to become clearer.

So my final words are, friendships are one of the most precious gifts from God. And friends come in many shapes and forms–take family members and pets, for example. But we should absolutely never forget that there is one friend of ours that we have that never makes mistakes.

And that person is God himself.

I encourage you to take some time today to thank God for being a friend, and for considering us a friend of his. Also, please reach out to the people in your lives who have been true friends to you. Let’s all strive to be a better friend after the reminder of National Friendship Day.

309 days ago, on August 1, 2021 I posted for the first time on this blog. Ever since then I have learned so much about marketing, my writing skills have improved, I’ve met so many other amazing teenage and Christian bloggers, I’ve gotten wiser and I’ve gained a total of 100 of you guys (my loyal and amazing followers; 98 WordPress and 2 emails!!!

Oh, but did you think that was all? Nope! As an extra bonus, today was the day where we reached 1,000 likes on The Joys and Trials of a Christian Teen!

I want to give thanks to God for giving me the perseverance of to post almost every day and bringing me you guys, my Goodmommy for constant love and support, and all of you for going out of your way to follow my blog—especially those of you who frequently like and/or comment on my posts. I appreciate you all, and I thank you for joining me on my journey. ♡

Book Review #4: Witchlings by Claribel A. Ortega

Every year, in the magical town of Ravenskill, Witchlings who participate in the Black Moon Ceremony are placed into covens and come into their powers as full-fledged witches.

And twelve-year-old Seven Salazar can’t wait to be placed in the most powerful coven with her best friend! But on the night of the ceremony, in front of the entire town, Seven isn’t placed in one of the five covens. She’s a Spare!

Spare covens have fewer witches, are less powerful, and are looked down on by everyone. Even worse, when Seven and the other two Spares perform the magic circle to seal their coven and cement themselves as sisters, it doesn’t work! They’re stuck as Witchlings―and will lose their magic.

Seven invokes her only option: the impossible task. The three Spares will be assigned an impossible task: If they work together and succeed at it, their coven will be sealed and they’ll gain their full powers. If they fail… Well, the last coven to make the attempt ended up being turned into toads. Forever.

But maybe friendship can be the most powerful magic of all…

MY TAKEAWAYS

The purchase of this middle grade novel during a long-awaited visit to my favorite book store (see that post HERE) was very impulsive and based on three factors; I loved the cover art, I loved the synopsis, and I saw the stellar reviews. But it was a quick decision that I’m very grateful I made.

I honestly loved Witchlings a lot more than I expected to. A story filled with important lessons, tons of funny moments to keep readers laughing, and wholesome, well-developed characters, I think many more bookworms of all ages will find this a very rewarding read.

While I loved so much about this book, I have to admit that after the character introduction and Seven, Thorn, and Valley (the Spare coven) were assigned with their impossible task, the plot was a little uneventful and flat for a while–maybe the first 100 pages or so. Even so, I really wanted to keep going to see if the plot would enfold. And I wasn’t disappointed, as the fantasy adventure soon got off the ground.

There are a few epic magic duels, but I like how the author kept them family appropriate and fairly brief—even while using them to keep the novel action-packed and exciting.

After Seven and Valley–who was once her bully–decided to put their differences aside and work together, the entire story seemed to take flight through its many surprises, cliffhangers, and plot twists that kept me at the edge of my seat. Literally though, I was unable to put it down towards the end and read the final 150 pages—if not a little more—in one sitting. At this point in the journey I really came to an understanding of the meaning of each noted character and event–everything begins to click to create an impactful (yet heartfelt) ending.

The amount of character development among each of the main characters was a really great element of the story. As Seven’s bond with Thorn and Valley gets stronger, she seems to drift away from her former best friend Poppy, who stopped talking to her since she got into House Hyacinth, the coven of Seven’s dreams. It really proved that we can form the strongest bonds with the most unlikely (or different) people, and other times, friends go onto different paths. And that’s okay! If and when that happens, we should move on in love.

Me and the characters alike learned the importance of selflessness, never giving up (even through fear), facing intolerance head-on, forgiving and learning to love those who have hurt you, speaking up when you see someone you love being mistreated, and to cherish every moment as if its your last. I would agree that the protagonist, her friends, and her family serve as great role models to kids.

As my conclusion, Witchlings by Claribel A. Ortega is a humorous, exciting, and magical adventure that kids and adults alike can enjoy. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am praying that a sequel will come out in the next couple years. If you are a fan of the show The Owl House, the Harry Potter series or other teen prodigy magic-filled adventures, this one is for you.

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5, 5 being the best of the best)

My Summer Bucket List [2022]

What’s up, peeps? Summer break is coming much sooner than later, and that means it’s time to start brainstorming what we can do to pass the next couple months.That’s when the idea came to me…a summer bucket list!

Today, I will be sharing some of the things that I would be happy to accomplish this summer. While this list is purely for entertainment purposes, feel free to use some of the points here as some inspiration for your personal list, as well. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get started!

1. Pay more frequent visits to the library.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve stepped foot into a library. But to be honest, I’m ready to kill that streak–I want some new books! Whether I go to my local library, or add a few books to my personal collection from a bookstore, reading is definitely on the radar for what I want to do this summer.

2. Go to the beach at least once.

Even before COVID hit, me and my family have never been too much of beach-goers. That being said, if there’s any time to hit the beach it’s summertime. Having some fun in the sun will definitely make for a refreshing summer day.

3. Read the Bible more often.

In the mornings, I want to commit my time to God by spending a few minutes reading His Word. Summer time is about growth and gaining wisdom, and there is no better way to do that than reading the Bible and spending time with my Heavenly Father.

4. Do weekly art activities.

As I stated in a recent post of mine, weekends and breaks from school are my favorite times to indulge in my hobbies. To be fair, I’ve been painting, drawing, and crafting pretty frequently already. But I still want to put in the effort to continue to perfect my art skills over summer break.

5. Enjoy the great outdoors–and take lots of photos while doing so.

One of my favorite parts of the season of summer is the photogenic views. Nature is flourishing everywhere you look. And you know what that means; I’m going to have a lot of mini photoshoots whenever I get the chance.

6. Have family game nights with Goodmommy.

Family game nights with Goodmommy are always a blast, but it’s dawned on me that it’s been a while since we’ve actually had one. This summer, I’d like to spend more of my free time with my family as we do fun things together.

7. Go to the aquarium.

Do I miss going on family trips like this. I’ve had this on my mind for a little while, but I think that the weather and amount of leisure time of my break will be the perfect time to pay a visit to our local aquarium for the first time in years.

8. Reach a minimum of 125 followers.

It truly is a huge blessing from God that I already have almost 100 followers! YAYY!!! Since the summer will give me a substantial amount of time to improve my blog, I am hoping that we can reach at least 125 followers before school resumes.

9. Start journaling or scrapbooking

I would really love it if I got an instant camera, that way I could store some of my memories from my summer into a scrapbook or journal–it would be a great opportunity for me to get a little crafty.

10. Take a tour of my desired college

Since I’ll be entering freshman year (9th grade) this August, it’s about time that I start looking at colleges. Me and Goodmommy have already scheduled a private tour of the college that I have in mind, and I’m super excited about it!

This post was such a fun idea that I’m so glad that I was able to bring to life! I can already tell that this summer is going to be an amazing time filled with family, laughter, love, and lots of fun memories.

Furthermore, I’m excited to see how much of my bucket list I was able to fulfill when my 2022 summer break comes to an end.

My Role Model (and why we all need one) ♡

Almost everyone has (or has had) a role model during their formative years. Many adults will recall a person who they looked up to and helped them become the person they are to this day. Our role models are the people who help form us into responsible adults and help prepare us for the real world. That’s exactly why every kid and teenager needs a good role model in their life.

Now, some of you may wonder who my role models are. Although Jesus himself is the role model for all of us, and the generations who will follow, I believe that God always puts at least 1 person in our lives to be a second role model. For me, that person is Goodmommy, my grandmother and guardian who I love very dearly.

What I love about Goodmommy so much is that she is a Godly woman. Throughout her life, her joys and trials were God’s way of teaching her, not only so she can be knowledgeable, but also that she may pass on the wisdom that God has given her by instilling it in me. That is why I am so thankful to Him for placing this role model in my life: He knew exactly who I needed to be my example. 💖 Thank you, Jesus! 💖

Goodmommy is and will always be one of my best friends (right after Jesus and myself.) Not only do we do everything together, but she is always a joy to be around. There are very few instances that we are together without filling the room with laughter. No matter what, even with our very rare disagreements, we always come back together again, apologize, and continue in love. Every day is a day of love, joy, and laughter.

Role models can come in many forms. While some look up to their parents or grandparents, others may see an older sibling or a friend as their role model. Just keep in mind that even though we all have positive role models, there is a such thing as a negative role model, too. In everything, make sure that the people you surround yourself with are willing to invest in you to be the best person that you can be.

The people that will stay by your side (through your joys AND your trials) are people worth keeping around. Thank them for being your role models; we never know when our last chance to do so will be.

It’s National Siblings Day | Best Friends for Life

Siblings are some of the first best friends that you’ll ever have. They are always with you, they light up your life with laughter and joy, and they always have your back. Brotherhood and Sisterhood are some of the most special bonds to have. You can grow up together and make memories that last a lifetime. Siblings are a blessing from God.

Today is National Siblings Day, which gives me and everyone else who has a sibling(s) to show our thanks to some of the most important people in our lives. Sure, we may not always agree. We might not even act or think alike. But at the end of the day, the way our siblings are different from us are part of what make them special. Plus, we’re all brothers and sisters in Christ.

In celebration of siblings around the world, I have provided two poems (not written by me) about brothers and sisters. Feel free to send one or both of them to your sibling(s) as a way of showing them how much you care.

5 Qualities I Value in a True Friend – Reblog

Author’s Note: What’s up, y’all. Today, I’m going to do a reblog of one of my favorite posts where I share 5 of the main qualities that I value in a friend. I hope you all enjoy! ~ Q’Zion ⭐

If you had to choose 5 words to describe each of your friends, what would they be? Afterwards, think about 5 things that you value in a good friend. How many qualities do your friends have in common with your list?

In our teenage years, it’s natural to desire to be popular and have a lot of friends. However, it may be shocking when we realize that there are only a few people who really have our best interests at heart. This doesn’t mean that anyone is perfect. It just means that it’s better to judge whether a person is your friend or not by how they treat you and who they are as a person, instead of how pretty or popular they are.

Today, I wanted to share 5 Qualities that I Value in a True Friend. If you would like, you can comment your values, either in a friend in general or the friends that you already have, down below!

  1. Loyalty

Although it’s a sad reality, there are a lot of people that will pretend to be your friend, and act like they don’t know you, the next day. I really appreciate a friend that sticks by my side, no matter what. Even though we might not always agree, I appreciate people who always have my back, despite the bumps in the road that we might face from time to time.

2. Honesty

Another thing that I love is when a person can admit their mistakes or feelings. I know that no one, except God, of course, is perfect. However, when we do make mistakes, it’s a good thing to apologize for what we did. Also, if a friend of mine feels a certain way about a situation, them explaining to me how they feel allows better communication, and therefore, a better relationship!

3. Humor

Do any of you have that friend that can make you smile, even when your day isn’t going as planned? If so, then you know how awesome of a feeling that is. Personally, being someone who loves to laugh, a friend who knows how to make me giggle, especially when I really need it, is a great friend in my book.

4. A kind heart

This is pretty practical, but I value a friend who is kind. This not only means that they are kind to me, but that they try their best to be kind to everyone around them. A person who can get along with a majority of people that they meet, and truly has a heart for people is a person that I truly respect and will likely get along with.

5. A cheerful attitude

Never have I liked to be around negativity. Therefore, having a friend that is optimistic and just about always in a good mood can make me feel good as well. Positivity is the absolute best policy!

I hope you all enjoyed my list of 5 Qualities that I Value in a True Friend. Remember, a good friend is not a perfect person, but a person who has a good heart and spirit. The inside is what matters most!

My early Valentines gift!!! | The Gift of Giving ❤️

Hey y’all! I hope you are having a beautiful Friday and week! Me and Goodmommy went out today for some errands, and we saw a lot of Valentines Day gifts in the front of our local grocery store. This year, many people are getting gifts for their loved ones early, which isn’t too surprising due to the latest grocery shortages.

While I was in my live class today, Goodmommy came over to my desk with this beautiful chocolate bouquet. She immediately told me that it was from her guy friend: he bought it for me as an early Valentines Day gift. I immediately let out a small “Aww.” Even though I was in my class, I couldn’t help but be touched that Goodmommy’s friend guy thought about me and got me something (after getting Goodmommy a beautiful red rose bouquet, which is absolutely gorgeous.)

I really appreciate that he bought one that comes with a cute glass and a balloon. They can both serve as souvenirs to help me remember the sweet gesture. The next time I see Goodmommy’s friend guy, I will be sure to tell him “Thank you!”

I absolutely love my gift, so much that I don’t want to open it and mess it up, LOL. I took a bunch of photographs with it, and I made a couple of collages, too (such as the one you see above.)

At this point, I think I’m going to wait until Valentines Day to open it. This way, I will be able to savor the gift and take pictures of it with my other gift—Goodmommy already told me that she got one for me. She truly is the best Goodmommy ever!

I thank God for all the gifts I’m my life, and this one is no exception. Giving and receiving presents is a blessing that we can use to spread the love of God. I love how when you give, you can put a smile on someone’s face. Just as this gift did, for me.

We should all remember that it doesn’t take a lot to give. Gifts don’t have to be big to have meaning or be special. The best part of a gift is that, if they come from the right place they are meaningful, no matter the size.

After all, God loves a cheerful giver!

Although it’s a sad reality, there are a lot of people that will pretend to be your friend, and then. the next minute, completely ignore you. I really appreciate a friend that sticks by my side, no matter what. Even though we might not always agree, I appreciate people who always have my back, despite the bumps in the road that we might face from time to time.

2. Honesty ✨

Another thing that I love is when a person can admit their mistakes or feelings. I know that no one, except God, of course, is perfect. However, when we do make mistakes, it’s a good thing to apologize for what we did. Also, if a friend of mine feels a certain way about a situation, them explaining to me how they feel allows better communication, and therefore, a better relationship!

3. Humor ✨

Do any of you have that friend that can make you smile, even when your day isn’t going as planned? If so, then you know how awesome of a feeling that is. Personally, being a person who loves to laugh, a friend who knows how to make me giggle, especially when I really need it, is a great friend, in my book.

4. A kind heart ✨

This is pretty practical, but I value a friend who is kind. This not only means that they are kind to me, but that they try their best to be kind to everyone around them. A person who can get along with a majority of people that they meet, and truly has a heart for people is a person that I truly respect.

5. A cheerful attitude ✨

Never have I liked to be around negativity. Therefore, having a friend that is optimistic and just about always in a good mood can make me feel good as well. Positivity is the absolute best policy!
