Paperback vs. Hardcover Books: Where Do I Stand? ♡

What’s up, my fabulous followers! This is Princess Q (a.k.a. Q’Zion) and welcome to my blog! ♡

Now, to all of my fellow book fanatics, there’s really no such thing as a bad way to read a good book. From audiobooks, to hardcovers, there are so many different ways to read! And while all bookworms love a good story, we each have our own preferences for how we like to read. One of the largest debates among the bookworm community is the simple question: Are paperback or hardcover books better?

Although it may seem silly to most people, a majority of bookworms have a preference between the two. Honestly, I have both paperback and hardcover books in my collection, and as long as I have a book that I can hold, I’m a happy camper! But I thought it’d be cool if I had a little discussion about what I like about each, and whether or not I have a true preference between the two. Let’s go!

Paperbacks

I think we can all agree that paperbacks are probably the most convenient when compared to hardcovers. They’re cheaper, lighter, easier to transport while traveling, and they take up less space, which is super helpful for those of us who have hundreds of books in our collection.

I have to admit that if I put a book in my purse to take with me while I go out, it’s most likely going to be a paperback. They just have this classic “homey” feeling when holding them in my hands; and since I love to read while getting comfy in my bead or on the couch, that is a huge bonus!

Hardcovers

Whenever I get a hardcover book, the one thing that I can think is “fancy.” If you’re someone who highly values the aesthetic of your bookshelf, these are probably the way to go. Hardcover books last longer, are harder to stain due to dust jackets–or those little thick wrappers that wrap around the cover–and make for a much more luxurious reading experience.

It would be a lie for me to say that I don’t love all of my hardcover books. Not only is the cover art absolutely gorgeous, but they are also so nice to look at on a shelf. Although, when I’m reading them they are a lot heavier to hold, which isn’t the best as someone who likes to be comfortable while reading. And even though I adore dust jackets for their function and how they look, I almost always end up setting them to the side while I read. Despite these few drawbacks, I can’t deny that the fact that hardcover books are so gorgeous makes up for them.

Okay, so I know that you guys are still waiting for me to answer the question. Which type of book do I like the most: paperbacks or hardcovers? But to be honest with you, I’d have to say neither. At the end of the day, they both have their pros and cons. As long as it’s a good book–and preferably one that I can physically hold–I couldn’t be happier.

Well, I’ve already told you all where I stand in the paperback vs. hardcover debate. But what about you? Do you prefer paperbacks, hardcover, eBooks, or audiobooks? In fact, do you have a preference at all? I would love to hear from all my fellow bookworms in the comments!

Have an awesome rest of your week, everybody! God bless you all, and I will catch you later! Peace in! ♡

My TBR List for the Second Half of 2022

What’s up, y’all! Happy Tuesday! ♡

The first half of this year has already went by so fast, and my goal to read a total of 12 books before next January still stands. Lately, I’ve been reading many of the books in my own collection, and speeding through them within a few day’s time. But as a bookworm, I always feel the need to add more novels to my shelves.

Today I will be sharing a few of the most-anticipated books on my TBR (aka to be read) list for the second half of 2022. Let’s get started!

As some of you all know, one of my older cousin’s happens to be deaf. That has inspired me to take American Sign Language as one of my electives for my upcoming freshman year. And aside from the gorgeous cover art, I couldn’t help but love that the protagonist of this book is a deaf girl who is trying to navigate in a school with all-hearing kids. She also has a goal to make a song for a whale. Let’s admit it: cute animals are always a bonus.

Lately, I’ve been more interested in reading books with black protagonists, especially those that address racism and discrimination in a way that is appropriate for younger audiences, like myself. This middle-grade book starring the 12-year-old protagonist, Shayla, seems like a really good place to start. I’ve heard lots of good feedback regarding The Good Kind of Trouble, including how it address the issue of racism, but it also contains much diversity in the characters and a message of finding yourself, friendship, and standing up for what’s right. I can’t wait to test this book out for myself!

Fish in a Tree

You all know how much I loved the novel Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper. I’ve been eyeing this book for a while now, and it seems to have a pretty similar plotline. What really attracts me to this novel is that it seems to focus on the subject of belonging, speaking up when you need help and coming to a point of loving yourself and the things that make you different. The protagonist is a girl with dyslexia, and although I’ve heard of the condition, I think this book will give me a better look on what it is and how it can effect a person.

Honestly, just by looking at the cover you can tell that this is a super cute book. Magic Poindexter is the daughter of an incredibly famous NBA player, and her dream is to become an athlete and join her school’s cheer squad, the HoneyBees. The overall plot of the book seems pretty promising, and, once again, I love the diversity of the characters. Oh, and did I mention the book takes place at a summer camp? For obvious reasons, I’ve been in the mood to read summer stories, lately.

Yep, I still haven’t read it. During my visit to Barnes and Nobles last month, I looked for the most-anticipated novel on my list–the sequel to Out of My Mind–but I didn’t see it anywhere. Still, my excitement to read the next adventure of Melody in this novel has not faltered. I can’t wait to get my hands on this one!

Hopefully, you had fun seeing the books on my TBR list as much as I enjoyed writing about them. You all know that my bookish posts are always my favorites, lol.

LET’S CHAT!~Tell me, do you have any highly anticipated books on your TBR list and/or any books that you recommend for me? Let me know in the comments. (P.S. middle grade and lower YA are highly preferred)

Have a beautiful and blessed day, everybody! Peace in, y’all! ♡

A simple summer break is enough for me

Hey, everyone! My name is Q’Zion and welcome or welcome back to my corner of the internet! ♡

Considering that in less than a month now, school will be starting for me, I’ve been thinking about doing a review of my summer break. And while I was originally going to do it on one of the last days of summer, I recently found out that it’s National Simplicity Day.

Now, it may seem like this National Day has absolutely nothing to do with summer break. But the thing is, my summer has been pretty simple. Despite the fact that we haven’t done anything extravagant, so far, me and Goodmommy have still had an amazing time simply being in the moment, resting, and spending some quality time, together.

The truth is, you don’t have to do a bunch of things to have a great summer break. So, today, I will be sharing some of the everyday things that me and Goodmommy have done to make the most of my summer break, with many of the photos that I’ve taken to keep our summer memories alive.

Let’s get started!

I went to Barnes and Nobles for the first time in years. It was so exciting and overwhelming to see all those books in one building. I can’t wait to go again!

I bought 3 new books–and thoroughly enjoyed them all! It had been a while since I got some new books to add to my large bookshelf, so I was super thankful to be able to get into the swing of things when it comes to reading.

I’ve had two strawberry milkshakes–and used them to practice my photography skills. To be honest, I think I’ve developed a bit of an obsession lol.

I’ve had a lot of fun hanging out with my betta fish baby, Peace. Isn’t he adorbs, y’all?

I enjoyed some delectable desserts at Panera Bread, and found the best cinnamon roll that I’ve ever tasted. Great, now I want another one, lol.

I’ve had several fun trips to Michaels–my favorite arts and crafts store.

I rediscovered my love for Rainbowloom, and I’ve made a lot of bracelets and figures to grow my collection. Sometimes it’s crazy to think about how much I’ve made in one month.

I’ve had a LOT of tasty food, considering that Goodmommy is such an excellent chef.

I’ve gotten closer to my Heavenly Father God through constant prayer, gospel music meditation, and the reading of His Word. He has truly blessed me mightily.

And of course, through it all I’ve spent a lot of quality time with my Goodmommy! I feel as though us being home so much has brought us even closer together, and I am thankful to God for a mother-figure like her.

As you can see, although the first half of my summer break was fairly simple, each of the things that I have done with the ones I love has been such a blessing. Sometimes, simply enjoying each of the everyday aspects of life can make your summer that much sweeter. And while we have several fun activities planned for the second half of my time off—including a visit to MOSI and possibly completing obstacle courses at a local park–I am grateful for all the fun that I’ve had so far.

Yep, a simple summer break is just enough for me. ♡

LET’S CHAT~How did you/have you been spending your summer break?

Have a beautiful and blessed day, everybody? See you next time!

My Summer Bucket List [2022]

What’s up, peeps? Summer break is coming much sooner than later, and that means it’s time to start brainstorming what we can do to pass the next couple months. That’s when the idea came to me…a summer bucket list!

Today, I will be sharing some of the things that I would be happy to accomplish this summer. While this list is purely for entertainment purposes, feel free to use some of the points here as some inspiration for your personal list, as well. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get started!

1. Pay more frequent visits to the library.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve stepped foot into a library. But to be honest, I’m ready to kill that streak–I want some new books! Whether I go to my local library, or add a few books to my personal collection from a bookstore, reading is definitely on the radar for what I want to do this summer.

2. Go to the beach at least once.

Even before COVID hit, me and my family have never been too much of beach-goers. That being said, if there’s any time to hit the beach it’s summertime. Having some fun in the sun will definitely make for a refreshing summer day.

3. Read the Bible more often.

In the mornings, I want to commit my time to God by spending a few minutes reading His Word. Summer time is about growth and gaining wisdom, and there is no better way to do that than reading the Bible and spending time with my Heavenly Father.

4. Do weekly art activities.

As I stated in a recent post of mine, weekends and breaks from school are my favorite times to indulge in my hobbies. To be fair, I’ve been painting, drawing, and crafting pretty frequently already. But I still want to put in the effort to continue to perfect my art skills over summer break.

5. Enjoy the great outdoors–and take lots of photos while doing so.

One of my favorite parts of the season of summer is the photogenic views. Nature is flourishing everywhere you look. And you know what that means; I’m going to have a lot of mini photoshoots whenever I get the chance.

6. Have family game nights with Goodmommy.

Family game nights with Goodmommy are always a blast, but it’s dawned on me that it’s been a while since we’ve actually had one. This summer, I’d like to spend more of my free time with my family as we do fun things together.

7. Go to the aquarium.

Do I miss going on family trips like this. I’ve had this on my mind for a little while, but I think that the weather and amount of leisure time of my break will be the perfect time to pay a visit to our local aquarium for the first time in years.

8. Reach a minimum of 125 followers.

It truly is a huge blessing from God that I already have almost 100 followers! YAYY!!! Since the summer will give me a substantial amount of time to improve my blog, I am hoping that we can reach at least 125 followers before school resumes.

9. Start journaling or scrapbooking

I would really love it if I got an instant camera, that way I could store some of my memories from my summer into a scrapbook or journal–it would be a great opportunity for me to get a little crafty.

10. Take a tour of my desired college

Since I’ll be entering freshman year (9th grade) this August, it’s about time that I start looking at colleges. Me and Goodmommy have already scheduled a private tour of the college that I have in mind, and I’m super excited about it!

This post was such a fun idea that I’m so glad that I was able to bring to life! I can already tell that this summer is going to be an amazing time filled with family, laughter, love, and lots of fun memories.

Furthermore, I’m excited to see how much of my bucket list I was able to fulfill when my 2022 summer break comes to an end.

LET’S CHAT~What are some of the things you want to do this summer?

Have a blessed day, y’all! Peace in! ✨

My favorite National Days for March 2nd | 3 in 1

Some of you are likely aware that I really love blogging about National Days. They’re fun, random, and while some are plain silly, others have really deep, heartfelt, or funny meanings that are a joy to write about. Today, I was checking out the National (and World) Days, and I came across three that I really liked.

I was going to choose one at first, but…Goodmommy came up with the idea to write about all 3 in 1 post, which was a really awesome idea since all three of these caught my attention. So, here’s a paragraph summary for what these National Days are all about and what about them caught my interest.

You ready? Let’s get going! ✨

World Teen Mental Wellness Day

Me being a teenager myself, I think that mental health is especially important. For all people, but especially adolescents. In this stage of our lives, we are changing and maturing in many ways, so it’s always a good idea to make sure that our mental health is in check, resulting in a healthier and happier lifestyle. It’s a win-win for us and everyone who we know and love.

National Read Across America Day

I’m a book lover. All the way and back. I really love just about any National Day about reading, but this one definitely caught my eye. When you read a good book, you can gain so much wisdom and knowledge about many aspects of life, transported into a plot with unique characters on a fun adventure. It’s sad that so many people don’t like to read. That’s part of the reason why I want to publish books, in the future–to encourage people of all ages to get into reading family-friendly and fun pieces of literature.

National Old Stuff Day

Have you ever found something that you used and loved when you were little? Sometimes, it can be the old things that can remind us of our most beautiful and memorable moments and stages of life. Although the name of this National Day might sound a bit odd, ancient things can have some of the largest value.

This was a little out of the box for me, but it was definitely very fun to write. National Days vary so much, and while some days I don’t see anything super exciting, other days (like this) exceed my expectations!

Tell me what you guys feel about these National Days and one of the wackiest (but family-friendly) days that you’ve heard of, if any. Comment down below.

Have a blessed day everyone! #GodisLove ✨

7 Tips on How to Read More

Some of you may already be aware that one of my goals for this year, 2022, was to read more, as I realized that I didn’t read many novels in 2021. It’s not that I ever stopped loving to read, but I was busy with school, clubs, my blog, and family time. The time by so quickly, and before I knew it the year was over.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I’m not the only one that wants to begin to read more. What I love about every day is that each one gives you a chance to improve and set goals to support a more productive lifestyle with the activities that we love.

So here’s a few tips on how to read more. ✨

Be realistic. While wanting to read more is a wonderful resolution, it is important that we be realistic with how many books we can fit into our schedule. Consider all the duties that you have and how much time of leisure you have every week. This will make your goal for how much you want to read more possible and reachable.

Take baby steps. Just because you want to step up your reading game doesn’t mean you didn’t read at all last year. It’s possible that you read 3 books last year. This year, you might want to read 5. What I’m trying to say is, increase your goal in baby steps to avoid getting overwhelmed. Reading is fun, but its important that you also make time for family, friends, your other hobbies and rest.

Keep books in the rooms you spend the most time in. Sometimes it may be harder to read more when there are no books within arm’s reach. Try to add a bookshelf in your room or office and constantly keep a book on your desk, during the day. It will be easier to finish books more often if you keep one in front of you, at all times.

Consider replacing some phone time with reading time. After school, it’s only natural to want to check your phone. However, instead of spending the multitude of your time off of work/school on electronics, use some of that time to read.

Join a group or club of other readers. Personally, I am in a book club where we read one book a month. At the end of the month, we come together to discuss how we felt about it. It can be a great experience to surround yourself with a community of peers who have similar interests and hobbies.

Read works of your favorite genre(s). I find it much easier to get through a book quickly when it is of the genres that I favor. When reading your preferred genre, it will likely be right up your alley. Books that are the most relatable, memorable, and appeal to our emotions and likes tend to be the ones that we can read in just a couple of days.

Don’t be afraid to try audiobooks. Truly, life can occasionally get too busy for us to sit down and read. If you happen to be someone who is always on the go but would still like to get engaged in literature, then consider purchasing audiobooks (a recording of a book that is read aloud to you.) Not only are audiobooks very convenient, but you may also find some book recordings (specifically for classic books) for free on YouTube. Awesome, am I right?

Finding time for reading may be a little bit of a challenge. But one of the many benefits of the constant technological advances is that we now have so many options for how we can read–there’s no one way. I hope you enjoyed this fairly quick read and that you will reach all of your reading goals. All it takes is some faith, effort and time, and we can–and will–succeed.

Have a beautiful and blessed day everyone! ✨

My Favorite Reading Spot

I’m pretty sure all book lovers have a favorite reading spot. Even though I’ll read just about anywhere, there is always that one place where reading feels the most natural. The words just fly off the page, and you are transported into a world filled with life-like characters.

Although we all have that special spot, mine is the couch in my living room. It’s right next to two huge windows, so it feels and looks amazing when the sunshine flows in. And, if I’m in the mood to read at night, there’s a convenient lamp set right next to it!

Besides the amazing lighting, I also love how this spot is super peaceful, and gives me that serene feel that I love while reading. Not to mention that it’s in the comfort of my own home, and since I’m a homebody, it’s even more perfect!

Over Thanksgiving break, I’ve been reading and adaption of the classic Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, and I must admit, I understand the hype! So, have your eyes on the lookout for yet another book review!

Overall, this spot is and probably will always be one of my favorite places to read. Although, I will admit that my comfy bed is up on the list, as well, lol. 😋

Tips and Tricks for Reading with a Deadline

Tips and Tricks for Reading with a Deadline

-ajoyfulchristianteen ✨

Have you ever had to write a book report, and you set a deadline to finish it? The truth is, deadlines can be tough to stick to, especially when we stare at the long list of chapters that we know we have to read. But, like just about anything, reading deadlines are possible to hit!

Here are some tips and tricks to help you get started and successfully reach your deadline!

#1 – Separate your deadline into your goal for each day.

Don’t worry about the whole book that you have to complete, but focus on how many pages, and/or chapters you need to read each day. This method will help take your mind off of the big picture, which can be scary to examine. Instead, it will allow you to get the job done one step at a time.

#2 – Listen to the audiobook.

Let’s be real, chapter books, especially long ones, can be a challenge to read all by yourself. Therefore, if you can, find a copy of the audiobook. Audiobooks for classic novels are usually easy to find on websites like YouTube. This form of literature can allow you to listen to your book without having to flip through the pages, which causes the time to go a lot faster! Just remember to pay attention to the book, while you listen.

#3 – Make sure the deadline is do-able, if you can help it.

Sometimes, reading deadlines are unable to be changed. However, if it is, then make sure you are setting a goal that is actually do-able. Doing too much will cause you to become tired, which is a bad thing with any goal that we set. Don’t overwork yourself if you don’t need to.

#4 – Learn from this experience.

Things can pop up at the last minute, every now and again. Other times, there is possibly something that we could have planned for to prevent such a tight deadline. Is there anything that you could do differently next time? Whatever that may be, take this deadline as a learning experience, and something to think about, in the future.

I hope you all enjoyed these Tips and Tricks for Reading with a Deadline! Remember, try not to wait until the very last minute. It is better to start earlier, and work at a slower pace, than being in a tight crunch. Preparation is the key!

Have an amazing day everyone!

5 Reasons Why You Should Read More Often (Reblog)

Hello, again, beautiful people! I hope you all are having an amazing and wonderful day, night, or whatever time you are reading this. Alright, everyone. I don’t know about you, but for me, school is going to be starting extremely soon! And, I’m pretty excited about it. However, I also know that there is one particular thing that most kids aren’t fond of: reading. ✨

Well, it’s for this reason that I wanted to give you 5 Reason Why You Should Read More Often!

You might not know this, but reading actually has many benefits for your health and overall mood. I’ve loved to read and write books ever since I was in preschool, and, hopefully, after you check out these awesome tips, you will, too!

So, let’s get into it!

  1. Reading increases your memory. ✨

By reading a book, it becomes a responsibility to remember all of its elements. You need to remember the plot, the characters, the settings, and many other details that help you to understand the story, as a whole. When your brain creates a new memory, it creates new brain channels and strengthens existing ones, therefore improving memory.

2. Reading can boost your focus and concentration. ✨

Have you ever been distracted once or twice during school? If so, it’s nothing to be ashamed of. It’s probably happened to everyone at least once in their life. You might not realize this, but, when reading, you are putting all of your attention, or focus, on the story. You are taking in all of those elements and details. Therefore, you are increasing your ability to concentrate on what you are doing. Don’t believe me? Try reading for at least 10-15 minutes before you have to get ready for school. See how much better you can focus on your classes.

3. Reading reduces stress.

It doesn’t matter how tough your day at school is. It’s easy to forget about everything else that’s on your mind when you become lost in a great story. Reverting back to the last fact, reading causes you to focus on the story. Therefore, when you read a book, it gives you a greater opportunity to relax.

4. Reading increases your vocabulary.

While reading, especially YA (Young Adult) novels, you are discovering lots of new words and phrases. Because of this, you will be able to use these words and phrases when doing everyday things. Plus, you have to admit, using long words that your friends don’t know the meaning to can make for a pretty good laugh, don’t you think?

5. Reading is a great source of entertainment.

Whether you are just a little bored or you’re grounded and can’t spend most of your time watching YouTube videos, reading is a wonderful way to spend your time. Once you get lost in a really good book, it is just as entertaining as any other activity as the author lures you into an amazing adventure!

Alright, everyone! I really hope that you enjoyed those 5 Reasons Why You Should Read More Often! ✨

You might think it’s boring now, but, once you get your hands on a great story and dive deep into the characters and their journey, it’s really a wonderful feeling! Not only that, but, as proven above, you can get many other benefits from reading, as well!

Have a wonderful, beautiful, and educational day, my beautiful viewers! ✨
