Who’s Ready for Highschool? | How to Get Prepared — Reblog

A/N~ Happy Saturday, everyone! Let. me. tell. you. Today was a busy day, for me. Still, I decided to reblog this super fun post of mine to help out 8th and 9th graders to prepare for high school, since most schools are already/almost back in session. I hope you all enjoy it!

When you’re in 8th grade, it can be a lot to think about your future. It’s the last year of middle school, a.k.a. the time in your life where you start thinking about college and what career you want to pursue, all while trying to find out more about yourself and how you are changing. I know that it can seem like a lot sometimes. However, as a soon-to-be-freshman myself, I’m here to tell you that everything will be okay! We just need to get prepared. And here’s how!

1.) Make Sure You Have a Consistent Schedule to Better Suit the Upcoming Changes ~ Highschool is nothing to be afraid of. Still, it’s a new chapter of our lives that requires preparation. And that means a schedule that will better suit the changes. In high school we will have new classes, teachers, peers, schools and our grades begin setting deeper footprints. This means that we need to make sure that we have routines that will give us plenty of time to stay productive during weekdays.

2.) Pay Attention to Academic Areas that Need Improving ~ Most of us have at least one favorite subject. And along with that, there might be some subjects that you feel like you could improve in. Now is the time to put those feelings into action. If we go through the process of getting more comfortable with the subjects that we need help in, we are setting ourselves up for success in the future and in life.

3.) Maintain Good Study Habits ~ One of the biggest differences in high school vs. middle school is the amount of work. High school is when we really start to prepare for our future, so why not start early? Maintaining positive and stable study habits will help prepare us for what’s to come, making the load lighter when high school is in session.

4.) Ask For Help If (and When) You Need It ~ At one point or another, we’ve all had to ask for help, whether it was from God, a parent, a teacher, a friend, or even our communities. And if there’s any stage in our lives that we need to ask for help, it’s probably now. New stages can be exciting, but for others they can be nerve-wracking. So, whenever you need a helping hand to lay on your shoulder during this time of transition, don’t be afraid to ask for it. Asking for assistance is a skill that we will need to use in all stages of our journeys as people and individuals.

5.) Create an Organized Workspace ~ While study habits are important, the only way that we can study effectively is if we have a constant place to do so. When you come home from school (or when you do your work if you’re homeschooled, like me) it makes it much easier to focus when you have an effective study space to get the job done.

6.) Get Your Priorities in Check ~ Prioritizing what we find the most important in our lives is crucial to preparing for grade 9. Peer pressure is just about everywhere in most public schools, so make sure that you are in check with what and whom you should spend your time. High school is all about preparing for adulthood, and while we still have time left before then, making priorities are a must for another successful school year!

7.) Relax~We Got This! ~ No matter what, remember that as long as you give it your all, you’ve got it together! You are capable. You are smart. You will succeed. You are getting better every day. You got this! Don’t forget to say these things to yourself whenever you need some words of encouragement. We can’t overlook mental health! <33

This guide for How to Prepare for Highschool was such a blast to create! I’m super excited for what high school has in store for me, and I hope that now you are, too. Don’t forget that with effort, the willingness to ask for help, positive affirmation, and academic preparation, high school will be smooth-sailing. All we need to do (besides these tips) is relax and enjoy what’s soon to come!

Believe and you can achieve !

Hey, y’all! Happy Tuesday.

So, if you checked out my Valentine’s Day post discussing how we (me and Goodmommy) went shopping, you know that I bought a cute white shirt with the word “SHINE” and small silver beads elegantly placed on the front. I explained how we bought it specifically for a special occasion and that I would share what the special occasion is with you all today. And guess what. I came through with my word, y’all.

I was chosen to attend a Middle School Student Forum to represent my school!!! Just before I went to bed, I was jumping up and down inside with excitement. To have my straight A’s pay off, now allowing me to use my voice to make a positive impact on my community is truly a blessing.

We took a few pictures before we left. It was close to 9 AM, so we didn’t want to wait too long to get there. Though, all the pictures turned out adorable. This one is one of my favorites. Goodmommy is such an amazing support in all of this. My assistant principal gave me a document of some of the sample questions that the board members might ask. Just before bed time, we practiced roleplaying the introductions and sample questions. It’s always a good idea to be prepared. Also, thanks for your help, Goodmommy. :))

It only took us about 25 minutes to get to the building, and believe it or not, I was the first student to get there. To be honest, I was a little shocked. I’ve always been an early bird, though, so it was nice to be able to take a look around at the large auditorium and take some photos as momentoes of this wonderful memory.

The set up of the whole entire room was super organized and well-planned (to my liking.) They even gave each student an assigned table and seat based on our district. We also had a small notebook and pens for notetaking, as well as little tins of mints if we wanted a little snack. I really appreciated how friendly everyone was. They made me feel super welcome and comfortable.

My assistant principal also gave me a printed copy of the sample questions, so I was able to write in my notebook some of my answers regarding the criteria.

And here’s my assistant principal, himself. It was super nice to meet him in-person for the first time! He was nice enough to come over and greet us with a warm welcome as soon as he saw us.

After close to an hour of introducing myself to a couple of my table mates, taking notes, and drinking my Gatorade, it was soon time for the discussions to start. I enjoyed having a conversation with the board member of my district and some other students who attend a variety of public schools in my community.

Being able to hear and give feedback from those familiar with the academic and educational industry as well as hear from other students’ perspectives was really eye opening. I found it informative to learn about what kids my age may experience while attending in-person schooling, as well as how that correlates to my virtual public schooling.

We (including students in all 6 groups) were able to discuss topics like mental health, bathroom issues, peer pressure, connectivity with each other and our teachers and the list goes on. The fact that they are allowing middle and high schoolers to share our input on what we appreciate and would change about our school programs was a wonderful idea that I’m happy was put in place.

It also gave us a chance to get used to having healthy discussions and learning how to speak confidently in front of an audience. Not only giving our input, but being able to listen to the opinions and feedback of others in a respectful way. I found it such a great method for giving back to my community.

Of course, to celebrate this beautiful occasion, some of our parents (including Goodmommy) came over to take a photo of the board member, me and the other students at my table. I appreciate the amazing photography to make this memory last.

All in all, I thank God and all the staff and administrators for the wonderful honor of choosing me to be a representative of my school, the students in my school, and everyone in my community.

It truly was a wonderful experience that I will never forget and always cherish. And it has showed me that when you are committed and believe in what God has for your life you can achieve anything that you put your mind to.

5 Reasons Why You Should Read More Often (Reblog)

Hello, again, beautiful people! I hope you all are having an amazing and wonderful day, night, or whatever time you are reading this. Alright, everyone. I don’t know about you, but for me, school is going to be starting extremely soon! And, I’m pretty excited about it. However, I also know that there is one particular thing that most kids aren’t fond of: reading. ✨

Well, it’s for this reason that I wanted to give you 5 Reason Why You Should Read More Often!

You might not know this, but reading actually has many benefits for your health and overall mood. I’ve loved to read and write books ever since I was in preschool, and, hopefully, after you check out these awesome tips, you will, too!

So, let’s get into it!

  1. Reading increases your memory. ✨

By reading a book, it becomes a responsibility to remember all of its elements. You need to remember the plot, the characters, the settings, and many other details that help you to understand the story, as a whole. When your brain creates a new memory, it creates new brain channels and strengthens existing ones, therefore improving memory.

2. Reading can boost your focus and concentration. ✨

Have you ever been distracted once or twice during school? If so, it’s nothing to be ashamed of. It’s probably happened to everyone at least once in their life. You might not realize this, but, when reading, you are putting all of your attention, or focus, on the story. You are taking in all of those elements and details. Therefore, you are increasing your ability to concentrate on what you are doing. Don’t believe me? Try reading for at least 10-15 minutes before you have to get ready for school. See how much better you can focus on your classes.

3. Reading reduces stress.

It doesn’t matter how tough your day at school is. It’s easy to forget about everything else that’s on your mind when you become lost in a great story. Reverting back to the last fact, reading causes you to focus on the story. Therefore, when you read a book, it gives you a greater opportunity to relax.

4. Reading increases your vocabulary.

While reading, especially YA (Young Adult) novels, you are discovering lots of new words and phrases. Because of this, you will be able to use these words and phrases when doing everyday things. Plus, you have to admit, using long words that your friends don’t know the meaning to can make for a pretty good laugh, don’t you think?

5. Reading is a great source of entertainment.

Whether you are just a little bored or you’re grounded and can’t spend most of your time watching YouTube videos, reading is a wonderful way to spend your time. Once you get lost in a really good book, it is just as entertaining as any other activity as the author lures you into an amazing adventure!

Alright, everyone! I really hope that you enjoyed those 5 Reasons Why You Should Read More Often! ✨

You might think it’s boring now, but, once you get your hands on a great story and dive deep into the characters and their journey, it’s really a wonderful feeling! Not only that, but, as proven above, you can get many other benefits from reading, as well!

Have a wonderful, beautiful, and educational day, my beautiful viewers! ✨

4 Smart Ways to Balance School and Your Social Life

Let’s face it…school can be pretty time consuming. It’s pretty common for teenagers to have mounds of homework that can take hours to finish. However, while school is important, we also want to have some time to spend with our friends. ✨

Are you wondering how you can succeed in school, and yet, still have a productive social life? Well, if you‘re curious, let’s get started!

1. Create a schedule for your schoolwork and/or homework.

If one day, you start your homework at 5:00 p.m., but the next day, you don’t start until 7:00p.m., then this is an example of inconsistency. Creating a specific schedule that states the time or times that you do your homework can really help you stay social. How? Well, when your friends ask you “When are you free?” you can easily respond due to the information on your schedule!

Yep. I know it’s clever, lol.

2. Have realistic expectations of yourself and others.

As I stated earlier, school can be a lot of work. Therefore, it is likely that it will take up a good amount of your time. What I’m implying is, you might not be able to go out with your friends every day. Remember that you need to give yourself, and others, a break sometimes. So, if you are tired, don’t be afraid to explain that to your friends, and just chill at home, instead! And, if they ever say the same to you, give them the same respect, as well!

3. Join a couple clubs.

From personal experience, I can tell you that clubs are a great way to socialize and learn at the same time. Try joining a club that interest you or peeks your curiosity. I’m sure you’ll be surprised by how much knowledge you can learn and consume.

Just remember to try to pick clubs that fit into your schedules! Also, don’t sign up for a club if it negatively interferes with your schoolwork/homework schedule! Remember, consistency!

4. Ask for help from your guardian(s) or guidance counselor, if you need it. ✨

If you are a little intimidated or confused by all of this scheduling, then try talking to your parents/parent figure(s), or guidance counselor about the overall construction of the schedule and your studying tactics. It never hurts to ask someone you trust, especially if you are struggling, about a particular topic that you need help with!

So, those are 4 Smart Ways to Balance School and Your Social Life! I hope that you all enjoyed them! If you have any comments or ideas about this topic, please comment down below! Don’t forget, in all of the aspects of our lives, balance is required!

Have a happy, healthy, and joyful day, everyone! ✨

3 Tips on How to Thrive in Middle School

Hey, y’all! I hope you are all at peace today! So, school has been in session for about a month now, and we are all still probably adjusting to new teachers, classmates, and possibly even a new school. Starting a new school year can always be challenging, but especially so, when it’s your first year of middle school. ✨

It can be kind of scary to learn a new environment, at first. However, doing so is a part of life that we all have to go through. This is exactly why I wanted to share with you all 3 Tips on How to Thrive in Middle School!

So, let’s get started!

  1. Do your best in your classes.

I know, I know. You probably want to know how to thrive socially in middle school. Starting junior high school is that point in our lives where we want to make friends, be popular, etc. And while there’s nothing wrong with having friends, it’s also important that you do well academically. Taking notes in your class, doing your homework, and studying often are all ways that you can help ensure that you are academically secure.

You might not like it now, but you will appreciate all of that hard work that you did when you’re all grown up and living your best life emotionally, physically, and financially.

2. Be yourself.

Trust me, most people have been to a point in their lives where they have wanted to be included or accepted by a specific person or group of people. If you ever feel this way, remember that you don’t have to change who you are for anyone. Be who you truly are. True friends will come, if you do. Besides, who wants “friends” if they aren’t even real.

Also, remember, an important part of life is accepting the reality that some people might not like you. And that’s okay! As long as you love yourself and who you are, what others think is not important, at all.

3. Make self care one of your priorities.

During middle school, most of us are experiencing physical changes, whether you’re sweating more, your voice is cracking or getting deeper, or you seem to be getting clumsier. Remember, during the tweenage and teenage years, physical and mental health is super important! Always try to do things that help you relax, such as listening to calm music, talking to a sibling or best friend when you are upset, doing some yoga, or just making sure to give yourself a pep talk everyday. These are all ways that you can help increase the well-being of both your mental and physical health.

Okay, everyone! I hope that you enjoyed these 3 Tips on How to Thrive in Middle School. Although it can be tough, it will eventually come to an end. Just remember to focus in school, own who you are, and take care of yourself. If you do, I’m sure that you’ll be thriving in no time!

Have a happy, healthy, and peaceful day, everyone! ✨

7 Tips on Getting Better Grades in School

Hello, again, beautiful people! I hope this new school year is going great, for all of you! Speaking of school, today I wanted to talk to you guys about getting better grades. I mean, we all want to be able to show our parents a good report card. ✨

Besides, seeing that huge smile on your parent(s)’s face and that fantastic report card on your refrigerator really makes you feel proud about yourself. Especially when they can take you out shopping or for ice cream as a reward.

So, are y’all ready to learn how you can get good (or better) grades in school?

Let’s get started!

  1. Get or stay organized.

You might not realize this, but school is all about organization. If your locker is always a mess, or you can never keep track of your books, then it’s easy to start slacking when it comes to your grades. Keeping a clean and organized locker or desk, as well as recording important dates and events on a calendar can help you stay on track in school.

2. Attend each of your classes.

I know, going to school can be boring sometimes, but if you don’t attend or if you skip your classes, it’s really easy to get failing grades. Going to all of your classes, on time, as well as participating and carefully listening to lessons can really help you when it’s time for those big tests.

3. Take lots of notes!

This kind of intertwines with tip #2. While listening to lessons and/or discussions in class, it is very important to take notes. Lots of notes! Trust me, you are not going to remember everything your teacher says. And, even if you think you will now, you’ll see once it’s time for an unexpected pop quiz. Remember, it’s always better to be prepared than to be cocky.

4. Get a good amount of sleep (at night, though, not in class!) ✨

Studies say that teenagers from the ages of 13-18 need 8-10 hours of sleep every day. Not only is sleep essential for your health, but it also helps increase your amount of focus and concentration. Less naps in class will certainly help you improve your grades!

5. Make sure that you do lots of studying!

How can you do well in school when you can’t even remember what you’re learning? Along with taking notes, it is important that you study those notes often, to make sure that you can remember the material. Using techniques like flashcards to remember vocabulary or creating practice problems to master algebra can really help you in the long run!

6. Never be afraid to ask for help!

If you can’t understand the required material, whether it is because it’s simply confusion, or you have a certain condition, such as dyslexia (which is very common and nothing to be embarrassed about,) never feel as if you cannot ask for help. Try to ask your teacher or parent for help, and get a tutor, if needed. If you have or can get someone who is willing to teach you, then go for it!

7. Create/maintain balance.

If you do too much of anything, then you will eventually get burnt out or tired. It’s important that you also make time for family, dance/sports (if you participate in them), or just taking a few minutes to watch YouTube videos. Having a balanced lifestyle can really help you to focus and realx!

Alright, everyone! I really hope you learned from those 7 Tips on Getting Better Grades!

It’s important to do your best in school. It really helps prepare you for the real world, both academically and emotionally! I’m sure when you see that awesome report card on your refrigerator, you’ll agree!

Have a wonderful, educational, and fun day, beautiful people! ✨

Back-to-School Prepping

Hello, again, beautiful people! I’m back for another post! Today, I wanted to ask you guys about what you’ve been doing to prepare for school. I don’t know about you, but for me, it’s almost time for my summer break to come to an end. And honestly, the time felt like it went by really quickly, and really slowly all in one. ✨

However, I’m also kind of excited for this next year, since I’ll be starting 8th grade (my last year of middle school!) I am so excited to meet my new teachers, new friends, and possibly join new clubs. And that’s not even mentioning a new photography class that I’ll be taking!

Alright! So, what I’m going to do is ask you guys questions about what you’ve done to prepare for the 2021-2022 school year, all while giving my personal answers to each question. Comment down below your answer to each question! I would love to know what each of you plan to do!

You ready? Time to get started!

  1. Are you going to go to school virtually or in person?

A: Well, this question is pretty easy for me to answer, since I’m homeschooled, and have been since the middle of 3rd grade. Personally, I love it, since I have a lot of flexibility when it comes to how I have to submit my assignments! I’m happy that I’ve already figured out how I’ll attend school this year!

2. What are you most excited about for this school year?

A: Oof. This question is actually pretty difficult for me to answer since there are so many big things that are happening this year. However, I would have to repeat what I said earlier, and say this being my last year of middle school. This means that I only have 5 more years of school before college! I can already tell that high school is going to be awesome!

3. How much, if any, school supplies have you/your parents bought?

A: For the most part, I haven’t needed to do much shopping, since, over the years, me and my Goodmommy have stocked up on school supplies. However, for the most part, I just got some notebooks and glue sticks. I probably won’t be needing a lot more school supplies anytime soon!

4. What is your favorite/most anticipated school subject?

A: Well, I happen to be a straight-A student, so there really isn’t a subject that I’m particularly bad at. However, I will be starting pre-algebra this year, so that’s pretty exciting for me.

5. Last but not least, Will you be joining any clubs this year?

A: For seventh grade, I joined Creative Writing Club, Cooking Club, and the Black Student Union. Although they were really fun to participate in, I have to admit, that was a lot to keep up with. Therefore, I’ll probably only join one or two clubs this year, even though I don’t know which clubs they are yet.

Well, I hope you had fun reading my answers and coming up with your own for this school year! Don’t forget to comment down below your answers to these questions, and follow my blog if you enjoyed it!

Have a great day, beautiful people! And don’t forget, if you are going to school in-person, wear your masks! ❤️
